30sec or more after running and then shutting down the motor is it getting hot? That is usually indication of higher amps. I have 3 different watt meters and they are all within the same ballpark and 2 of those motors.
Mostly nowadays I only use the Eagle tree e-logger3 on my bench it gives you everything through out the entire run keeps a record to replay and creates charts, it measures watts, Volts, Amps, RPM

Just got the Hobbyking Thrust stand and calibrated it yesterday with actual weight, came out pretty good, before calibration I was getting half the actual pull. My first tests were interesting, to say the least. Seems 16x6 averages at 2600g thrust, over 30 sec run and 15x8 a bit less, but 16x6 barely makes 200m, mostly 190m but 15x8 makes it easily with less thrust but higher pitch speed.

Ok I have modified my test stand with addition of the Turnigy Thrust stand to complete the test group. Stand has to be calibrated but with testing 1000g 2000g 3000g and 4000g weights, at the top 2 it was within 100g the bottom 2 was within 30g, the 1000g was 10g out, pretty good for the range I need.
Now I have Eagle Tree E-Logger3 that gives me Watts, Amps, Volts and RPM directly to my laptop in live mode and now I have the Thrust also.

Only did one prop 15x8 with Hyperion 3019-14 on the new setup, I also tested 2 batteries Thunder Power 1300/3s/70cand Hyperion 1100/3s/45-90c
I have included the 2 graphs, to check out 30 sec run, static of course with corresponding thrust numbers at the start and end of 30 seconds of the same run and I plugged it into e-calk to see how it compares. I think the motor is much closer to 700kv and not 800kv as they claim, 730 or so, then the numbers work.

Forgot to mention 15x8 makes 200m in 26sec.

Using the same reasoning, lower KV than advertised and lower output from 850 lipo I played with e-calk and came with numbers that Alex is getting , his motor maybe even lower KV then mine and than it would show why 16x8 is only running at 45A.



Also looking at these tests I do not think any of these 45c or so batteries are up to the task, they are barely producing 45A but also at lower voltage, below10v closer to 9, 1300 seems to be minimum size also.

It is possible, I would try second motor on a bench, I would not go through the motions of installing it in the glider. Or if you want to make a trip to Pickering we can set a date and test it here on my Gizmo!

I wonder if it is just the battery that is making the difference, not the motor kV? If I tweak the battery C rating in eCalc, I can get similar numbers leaving the motor kV at 800. I find lower battery C performance more likely than too much variation in kV on the Hyperion motors. I know there are some ways to test the kV of motors:

I was starting to think the little batteries were pretty marginal too, and that 1300mAh is about the smallest I'd run 3S. 1000mAh 4S isn't too bad. I'm almost certain it was the little TP 850mAh battery failing that killed my Maxa (may she rest in peace). They just don't have any reserve.

The battery is definitely the weak link in our flying, we are demanding a lot from these small cells and the quality of Hyperion motors is pretty good, I get very close results from 2 motors but lower than advertized KV could be possible in small tolerance. I have my doubts on e-calc accuracy, there is so much variation and their parts choices are limited, but they do get you to the ballpark. I have to check into measuring KV. I stick to real data but like opinions on the actual measurements. Gets me thinking, I love playing with power systems!

I've got quite few Nanotechs. The 45C 1300mAh 3S is alright for 45A or so, just heavier than my gliders need up front.

After my Maxa experience, I don't think I'll use anything less than 1000mAh with today's technology, at least if it is supplying the airborne power as well. Adding an airborne battery is far heavier than just using a 1000+mAh battery with a small back-up. Now that I've been burned, I'd likely want two independent power sources no matter what so I'd have a back-up anyway.

I wonder if the shipping price is correct from NG Hobbies, since I don't think Canada Post allows any separate lithium batteries at all?

Still looking for that perfect 100g, 500W battery that doesn't cost a small fortune in Canada.

Edit: Canada Post will still take lithium batteries for domestic ground transport only. They need the official warning label, and the maximum for a package is 100Wh (= V x Ah). For a 3S, 11.1V battery, that would be about 9Ah in a package.
