Re: FPV itch! Must be scratched soon!
I use IBcrazy's inverted V on my AP plane with the 200mW vTx. (no FPV yet) and I can tell you it makes a huge difference, 200-300m isn't a problem most days and some days 400m isn't either. Now he's moved on to the skew planar wheel / clover leaf combination and he swears that once you've tried that combo you'll never go back.

Re: FPV itch! Must be scratched soon!
Big????? my inverted v for 910 mHz is about the palm of my hand in width! That's not exactly huge and not really a lot bigger than 1.2 gHz!

Re: FPV itch! Must be scratched soon!
I think he was thinking of a CP antenna. The V antenna is not that big. I have a set of 2.4 rhcp antennas. The 3 lobe on the tx and a 4 lobe on the rx. I also have a rhcp 8dbi patch antenna used with the Oracle diversity rx. 5.8 has the smallest antenna and they get bigger as you go down in frequency.

Re: FPV itch! Must be scratched soon!
Yeah, the inverted V in 900mhz wont be a problem in size, at least for the plane(s) I have in mind.
Here is a great thread by IBCrazy that describes how to make the inverted V antenna. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1159968 Its basically a dipole antenna that is bent in the shape of a V. As for the base station, it can be a somewhat larger antenna, and the "Virevent" Center Polarised (CP) antenna from HugeOne should work very well: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1455458 The virevent has 4 arms, and his newer model, the "turbine" works even better. In that thread, he has a PDF flile that describes how to make them, with dimensions for all the popular FPV frequencies. Naturally 900mhz will be the larges, but since it is going on the base station, that shouldn't be a problem:

Re: FPV itch! Must be scratched soon!
Man! I need my FPV!!!!!
It still hasnt arrived- Friday came and went Fortunately I managed to do some FPV with a fiends plane today. Ths morning I made an inverted Vee TX antenna for his FPV unit. It worked great. We got as far as we could visibly see the plane (with a spotter). We got to just beyond 1/2 mile before we chickened out for lack of the spotter being able to see what the plane was doing. Visual signal was impressive at that range- I am sure we could have gone further, but his radio is 2.4G. All in all a great day for FPV Now I just wish my stuff will get here this week so I can do some flying with my own hardware by next weekend

That is a very inetersting systme you have there.
Do you find the antenna out on the wing makes a difference? Why so far out? PS- love that little monitor you have on the TX- what make is that and where did you get it from?
