I think the only thing the software update does is fix a bug when you are using the memory feature with LiPos. Depending on how you use the charger, you may never run into the problem.

The update does not change the charge algorithm so it is safe to use the older firmware without using the memory feature.

Mine does not have a sticker and it's charging LiPo packs without problems for more than 2 years now.

I'm not using the memory feature.
