Engine problem

Bought a plane and have problem with engine open /close valve its stuck in the closed position. Disconnected the fuel lines, took the engine off the plane and clevis to servo. I discovered moving the throttle arm is moving freely and when I tighten it just loosen back up again. I ask fellow club members on how to fix it they told me WD40 or rubbing alcohol which I did and didn't free it up.

How can solve this problem? What do I need to do? Have anyone else have this problem? Its the hole in front of engine that gives more gas or less gas when you control the radio.

Need help please and thank you.

Dave

Re: Engine problem

Hi Dave,
If you can take the carb apart you can clean the barrel and parts. I had this happen to an old OS35 that I picked up at a swap meet a couple years ago. I soaked the carb in Marvel Mystery Oil and within a few hours the carb was loose and moving again.

Re: Engine problem

If you are new to all of this Dave then simply remove the carb and soak it in your glow fuel overnight.

Re: Engine problem

As Bill said take the carb. off including the needle valve, soak it in methyl hydrate or your RC fuel over night and if this does not free it up add a little heat and the barrel will start moving. Let us know how you make out. Do not soak it in Gasoline it will ruin you O rings.

Re: Engine problem

just warm it with a heat gun or even a butane lighter will work as long as there are no plastic parts.,that will get it moving ,then take it apart and clean in solvent .

Re: Engine problem

I cant even unscrew around carb all I'm doing is stripping the screws they are so tight. I don't know what do now. Yes I am new to this Bill all of this RC world I was more into model rockets in my early yrs. Well I cant take off the carb without ruining the screws... What next? Any other ideas? I was thinking either taking it to a club member or local hobby shop that deals with RC. I don't want to do any more damage to the engine and hope its not garbage engine.

Re: Engine problem

Do you have a heat gun or small torch? Simply warm the carb without cooking it and the throttle barrel should start to move. Once you get it moving drizzle some fine oil or even fuel in and around the throttle barrel until it becomes very loose and easy to move.

Re: Engine problem

I use automatic transmission oil. After you soaked it for four hours or more hold it over a hot toaster for a few minutes. Do not forget to remove the "O" ring at the base. I just did one from an OS .40.
