Re: Balancing plane?

are you looking to find the balance point or is this a final trim out type balance in flight for best flying performance?

if is finding the initial balance point of the plane you need to say what type of wing it has.

Re: Balancing plane?

Here is a web site that you can use.

Just input the various dimensions of your airplane and it will tell you the range of CG to use.

It will also predict the STALL SPEED if you can weigh your airplane.

AIRCRAFT CENTER OF GRAVITY CALCULATOR

Aircraft Center of Gravity Calculator Aerodynamic Center (AC), Mean Aerodynamic Chord (MAC), Center of Gravity (CG), Neutral Point (NP) and Wing Area ...

Re: Balancing plane?

Your link seems dead.

http://adamone.rchomepage.com/cg_calc.htm

Some people use the sling and plumb-bob method.

I am thinking of getting two more scales and just do it the way we do it at work.

Re: Balancing plane?

Are you looking for information on how to determine where the center of gravity (CG) should be or a way of measuring the CG?

Re: Balancing plane?

This is a Thread I did here on RCC concerning balancing a large scale airplane. I still use this method and it works great. There are other ideas there as well

Re: Balancing plane?

So guys thanks for the input . All good but out of my reach. I guess I wanted to know was where can you (two people) grab the plane from to balance it. I was told you can grab it from the wing tip at the CG point. I know that you do that on small planes but what about 33%..

Thanks
James

It can be done with two people if you can lift the weight OK. I wouldn't say it is the most accurate since the top of your fingers are a bit large surface and if you tilt hand so your fingertip changes angle it can change the reading quite a bit.

You can make the sling and plumb-bob setup out of very inexpensive items.

Re: Balancing plane?

I use a Vanessa balancer for my large planes, which may be the same as the sling and plumb-bob mentioned above. To see what the Vanessa balancer looks like and to find out how to build one try this link http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_708060/tm.htm or http://home.mindspring.com/~the-plum...%20Machine.htm
