2.4 Scanner

Is there some kind of Cheap scanner for the 2.4 GHZ radios. We had another all of a sudden no control crashes the other day. This radio had been working trouble free for a year. Battery voltages were good. There is lots of other stuff on 2.4, so how do we check on interference?

Re: 2.4 Scanner

The 2.4GHz band allows for a variety of frequency hopping/spreading techniques which makes it difficult to analyze. You basically need to look at the band as one giant 'channel'. This requires an expensive RF spectrum analyzer which is not a cheap piece of equipment.

What radio are you using? You might be able to get something from the RX itself.

All of my newer Spektrum RX's have a HOLD LED that tells me in an instant if there was a communications issue. I can also connect the Spektrum Flight Log and get detailed information.

When you say "we" do you mean the crash was at your club/field, or personally? Same radio or receiver as previous? Or different equipment altogether?
More details may help to diagnose or assist in diagnosing-

Any homes nearby?
Telecommunications equipment?

Re: 2.4 Scanner

I got a reply from MAAC that put me on to a scanner. It is the "chanalyzer pro' from metageek. I tried to attach it but it would not work. I received all kinds of do's. don'ts and suggestions from the MAAC radio man but again it will not attach.

Useless because the newest radios use ALL the channels ALL the time.
If you feel you really need to, you could try a WiFi analyzer, just get an App for android or ifone.

Does anyone know of a website with more info on this new modulation/transmission scheme?

I'd like to learn more about it.

Thanks,

Re: 2.4 Scanner

I believe that a 2.4 scanner purchase really is not benificial but ensure that all 2.4 equipment used at the flying field has a FCC or IC ( canadian) approval number on all transmission devices including FPV. There is too much stuff out there that comes in from Hong Kong/Asia that does not have this approval number. The next step would be to run a brand of radio transmitter that uses the FHSS system of control as it selects the best " frequency or channel" among the approximately 70 available. Othe brandsr lock on to only 2 "channels" and selects the best of the two.

Just my thought.

Re: 2.4 Scanner

If you change the batt. in your plane for another flight, you have to turn your transmitter OFF and back ON before you plug in the new batt.

Plugging in a fresh batt. without cycling your transmitter will not give you a proper bind! It will work but you will have bad range.

Obvoiusly you are not familiar with the Airtronics system. You can power up your transmitter or receiver in any order you want and no issues with any binding as the system is very superior... Once bound thats it folks end of job. The only time rebinding would be required is if the specific receiver is used with another transmitter . Range is never an issue .
