Over the 77.2 lb Limit
Gents
Just wondering if anyone on here has constructed and aircraft and it has exceeded the 77.2 lb legal limit for M.A.A.C. Any imput or information on how you went about getting Transpot Canada approval for the UAV status would be appreciated. Craig |

Re: Over the 77.2 lb Limit
Are you talking Line-of-sight piloting (ie at a MAAC field) or out-of-sight UAV flying?
MAAC has a 2 page (i believe) SFOC application for heavier than 77.2lb RC airplane that is a lot less cumbersome than the standard SFOC application. From what I understand, the approval process for the model airplane SFOC takes a lot less time as well

Re: Over the 77.2 lb Limit
I'm building a 40 foot span Hawker Hurricane, that will weigh a few thousand pounds. . . . But the museum I'm building it for won't let me fly it! Sigh.

What scale is that? One-fifth scale? Quarter scale?

Re: Over the 77.2 lb Limit
Max,
the Hurri that Dave is building for the (Shearwater Aviation) Museum happens to be a full scale (1:1) replica re: the 40' wingspan mentioned.

Re: Over the 77.2 lb Limit
OMG that's crazy! What kind of RC engine and RC controls would you use on a scale model that size?

Re: Over the 77.2 lb Limit
lol it's called a Rolls Royce Merlin, and a real pilot for the controls. For now, it's going to be a static display, but the firewall/engine area will be able to accept an engine, i.e. Chev V-8 etc, to be able to do run-ups and taxi for displays, airshows. There's no money to go through the whole process to make her flyable, and it would take about 5 years to build, vice 3.
