Those Evolutions are looking sweet eh? If I was in the market for a small engine I would cure look at one.

Agreed. Pretty cool. Also the little O.S.

Pulled the Saito, starting on the conversion now.

Re: Opinions needed on wing loading/engine match

I'd go with the .52 four stroke. When I talked to the BUSA people at the Toledo Show they recommended the .52 for all their 1/6 models.
I have a Magnum .52 four stroke in a Sopwith Pup. It's actually the Flair kit called the Puppeteer. It has a .60 inch span and it flies nice and scale. It's turning a 12x6 prop.
Let us know what you do.

Dave

Re: Opinions needed on wing loading/engine match

Ken, don't be afraid to put a prop on that .46! The 12 x 4 that Kip suggested is right in the ball park or APC makes a 12.25 x 3.75 also. Lots of thrust & not so much speed will work well.

Too bad about loosing the nice 4 stroke sound on a plane like that but budgets do get in the way!

I once had an OS 48 FS (plans called for a .40 2 stroke)on a 1/4 scale Pietenpol Aircamper that wieghed 12 pounds! Flew very scale - just made it over the fence & struggled to gain altitude just like the real one with a Ford model A engine in it! Switched it out to a Saito .56 & it was much better!

Please don't overpower it when you get the money to put a real engine back in it as old scale bipes just look stupid with unlimited vertical in my opinion!

Re: Opinions needed on wing loading/engine match

I agree completely. The 2s is for now. (Almost done) hopefully a 50-60 four stroke in the future. I like enough power to get me out of trouble, but fly as scale as possible. I have an OS 75 2s in one of my 64" Fokker DVIIs that has overkill power, but fits under the cowl and is propped to fly quite happy at 1/3 throttle. Had to make my own muffler extension but otherwise fits and runs great.

Re: Opinions needed on wing loading/engine match

Conversion done. Now I just need a decent day to run it up, then wait for spring!
