Re: Jets Over Cayley 2010

Alan,
What is the best way to get down to Cayley from out this way? I have tried mapblast, but they want to send me right through Calgary down the Deerfoot, that could add hours to the trip. I don't know anything south out that way, when I go back to Red Deer, I turn off towards Cochrane and out through Innisfail, I'm sure you must be able to bypass Calgary to get down to Cayley no?

Re: Jets Over Cayley 2010

Jeremy if you want to completely bypass the city you could turn off at the Cochrane turnoff and go south(Highway 22), pass the traffic circle of Highway 8, go past Bragg Creek, (about 1 mile past Bragg Creek), turn left at the stop sign and keep proceeding to the Turner Valley turnoff, go right into Turner Valley, and turn left heading into Black Diamond. When you get to the Highway 22 turnoff in Black Diamond that points you south to Longview. You can take this down to Secondary 543 which will take you right into High River or you keep going down Highway 22 until you get to Secondary 540 which will take you right to the Number 2 just north of Cayley.
I'm out of breath just reading all of that. I hope that makes some sense. You are just basically following Highway 22 all the way down from the TransCanada.
I am including a link to a map I found.

Re: Jets Over Cayley 2010

For anybody who is crossing from Highway 22 to Highway 2 you may want to avoid Highway 540 since it is under construction and there are a couple of detours on gravel.

I live on 540 so if anyone wants to talk about details feel free to PM me since it's hard to write directions anticipating what everyone may want to do

We do the run High River-WPG about four times a year and for us the best route is turning off #1 at Cluny, through the Siksika Nation (80 kph) then head straight West at Milo.

You get more 110 limit and four lane (safer?) and traffic on the two lane is generally light.

There's one narrow bridge to negotiate but I've towed through there with a truck on a car trailer so it's not a big deal.

You get a nice view of the mountains for the last few miles and when you hit #2 you are North of the AJ Ranch.

PM me with questions.
