Realflight Simm Issue

I purchased a newer RF simm for a friend that's having some problems flying. It wouldn't install on his computer. So I tried it on both my Son's and mine, which are both brand new Intel Generation 4's, only months old. Not one would read the DVD. It turns out that the program is shipped on a Dual Layer DVD. Which means if you don't have a Dual Layer DVD reader then you won't be able to install it as it is. I'm sure other members have found the same issue. Cheers Floyd

Re: Realflight Simm Issue

Who told you about the Dual Layer DVD? The DVD standard has had support for dual layers since it's inception so I find that hard to believe on newer drives like you described. There were some limits with burning using DVD-R DL disc but those are long discontinued. The DVD+R DL format is relatively good for compatibility in most DVD readers and especially the newer ones.

I'm pretty sure my RealFlight disc is a stamped DVD not a burned one so there should be no issue.

Re: Realflight Simm Issue

Google search "Realflight dual layer dvd" and read it for yourself. I had three computers that wouldn't read or explore the DVD. And it wasn't a copy, but an original. My new DVD drive is using a driver that's dated from 2006 running Windows 7. Cheers Floyd

Re: Realflight Simm Issue

The DVD drive should be able to read that no problem. The driver itself for the DVD drive is 100% irrelevant (The driver on both my laptop and my desktop with the latest version of RF installed is dated 2006 as well). Dual layer drives have been around and been the standard for at least a decade. I guarantee there is a different issue involved.

Re: Realflight Simm Issue

Well I tried it on three computers running XP and Windows 7 with the same result. The drive would spin and the light would flash but nothing ever happened. And when I tried to explore the disk I got the same thing happen. But when I put in the second disk with the upgrades I could read it. But that disk isn't a Dual layer. Cheers Floyd

Re: Realflight Simm Issue

I'm willing to bet you have a bad disc. Sure, it's possible to have three failures, but not very likely.

Re: Realflight Simm Issue

I thought so too. I returned it to the seller whom I know telling him something is wrong with the Disk, but it loaded in his computer with no problems. I don't understand. Cheers Floyd

Re: Realflight Simm Issue

Ask him to transfer the files to a new DVD ... Use a file-by-file data copy and not a disk copy. You should also be able to dump it to a large USB drive.

The copy protection is in the dongle and serial number, not the disk to my knowledge.

In doing so, any errors on the original disk will immediately become apparent.

I've already returned the program to the seller. Cheers Floyd
