Ongoing problems - Nano qx

After a spontaneous purchase of this awesome little machine, and learning to fly multi's (with all the associated crashes), it has now become unflyable.
There seems to be a couple different issues happening. Firstly, after arming on a completely level surface, it appears like one of the props is not generating enough power and it ground flips. Eventually, if I bring throttles up slowly, I can get it to lift off and fly somewhat straight in slow FF, until I flare for a landing, at which point it begins this awesome oscillation that brings it down.

I've tried so many different things I've almost spent what it's worth in parts. new motors all around *2, new props all around * several, and even a new controller board (warranty from Horizon). I'm pretty stumped right now

Hey Adam,

I'm assuming you have the right motor (clockwise vs. counter-clockwise) in the right position and its corresponding propeller mounted there right?

Also, when you replaced the board did you orient it the same way as the original board? They are directional.

Cheers,
J

Re: Ongoing problems - Nano qx

Absolutely, I made sure everything was exactly-ish the same as before. I didn't even try to straighten the slightly bent blades, I just replaced them.
Its strange, because I can get it to fly, slightly, before the oscillation kicks in. You would think replacing the guts of the machine would bring about a completely new bird.
I'm going to try a complete 4 motor swap to another brand, maybe I got a bad motor or something.

Re: Ongoing problems - Nano qx

I haven't looked into it, but I wonder if there's a way to "recalibrate" the gyro on it.

I believe it recalibrates every time you connect the battery.

I'm thinking gyro as well but I'm sure it's part of the new board.

Re: Ongoing problems - Nano qx

Ya its one of those micro all in one units. And its bizarre that it performs the same way with both boards

Re: Ongoing problems - Nano qx

Late to the party, not sure if you sorted this out or not, but it sounds like you may have a prop or props on wrong. I have seen this sort of behaviour in larger quads, resulting from either a motor spinning the wrong direction, a prop being on upside down, or props on in the wrong order.

Primarily it is your description of trying to lift off quickly and the unit flipping. That is a text book symptom of prop / motor rotation being setup incorrectly. Most multirotors can compensate for this condition if you take it really easy on take off and flight, as you described.

In any case, you need to double check all props and motors. Confirm the correct rotation of each motor, and confirm that the correct prop is on each motor. Also confirm that all props are on correctly, and not upside down. I don't own a Nano QX, but I can see from the photos the props could be installed upside down with no effort.

Cheers

Re: Ongoing problems - Nano qx

I have a Nano QX as well - had the same problem after a spill; check all four motors and how each one is mounted (very carefully) - one of my motor mounts had slipped down (1.5mm) ---- I had to pull the motor out and rotate the housing back in place then return the motor into the mount. All was well after such a minor adjustment.

Hope this helps!

Also be very careful about making sure you start the machine up with your trims centered on the transmitter. If they are out even 1 or 2 clicks the machine will not work correctly. Numerous times we have had customers bring machines back only to find that the trims were out. Center them up, power on and viola the machine flies fine.
