Anybody out there interested in Autogyros?. I suspect that most of the Rotary Wing (':P') are probably Heli pilots.

I scratch built a Cierva C.4 designed by Steve Tillson but I never got up enough nerve to actualley fly it. It was the first aircraft I ever scratch built so I was a little scared of crashing something I had that much time into. I had no heli experience at the time and once I got into helicopters and forgot all about it.

I think I will drag it out one day and go for it.

C-4 Gyro

The C-4 is a great flyer. I have one and, aside from taking off from the ground, which can be a little trickey until you get used to it, it handles well in the air. Make sure you have the the blades ballanced and you should have no problem. Keep the nose up, 'gyros don't like a "nose down" attitude.

Let me know how you make out

I have ballanced the blades but what I found difficult was tracking them. I had a friend hold the machine into the wind to get he blades up to speed so I could check the tracking. I found it very difficult as the wind was blowing the entire machine around and it was difficult to see which blades were higher or lower than the others. I uesd diffent colors on each tip.

The next time I think I will only use two colors. Leave one blade always one color then move the second color to the remaining three blades in sequence thus tracking all the other blades to the one reference blade.

When my Father-In-Law was living in BC a gang of the guys a RCFCBC got into the autogyro "kick"

They built 'em in all different sizes.

I think one of the guys even made a BIG one with a Q-35 or something like that on it !

I'll try to get the story and pics.
