Good for you Jim. We need to get some new Basic guys out flying this year. Feel free to ask questions guys. One thing you will quickly learn is that there is lots of help and coaching when it comes to helping new guys make the jump.

Re: Scale Aerobatics/IMAC for Begginers!

Great idea Jim.

For all those new BASIC IMAC pilots, just to let you know, "size does not matter".

We had a few Basic pilots last season that flew big electric faomies and did quite well. It's all about flying maneuvers well and nothing more.

By the way, the toughest one by far believe it or not, is a loop, even for the higher classes.

Welcome and fire away with the questions. There will be more help than you can imagine from one of the greatest bunch of people in any hobby, and the only real competition part is against yourself.

Brendan (year 4 for me and I plan to be a lifer).

Re: Scale Aerobatics/IMAC for Begginers!

Wow! What a great collection of information to get started with. Spent the last 4 hours in the waiting room in ICU desperate to take my mind off things. This was perfect. So, having read literally everything you linked to in one afternoon, I have a headache and a lot of questions. Not really a cold weather flier so the first question is how can I make my sim more realistic to practice on? Just putting the final touches on my plane for this year so have no idea how it will fly but would like to find something fairly neutral for Eric and I to practice on until spring. I know not everyone likes flying sims but I'd rather do that then not practice at all.

Re: Scale Aerobatics/IMAC for Begginers!

Steven, I don't think there are many IMAC pilots that don't use a sim. I think one of the best things you can do is have your own radio connected to the sim for the "real feel". The other thing that Isabel recommended to me is to use the follow view for some parts to get a better sense as to what you need to do with the radio. Example: follow view for a roll to see if the plane goes off track and if so, what corrective actions are required from you. It still doesn't measure up to real flying but it sure helps train the fingers or just keep them in shape.

Good luck

Brendan

Re: Scale Aerobatics/IMAC for Begginers!

I've heard the opposite. Don't use your "flying radio" for the sim. If you sim a lot that's many miles on your radio and a potential problem for when you are flying the real thing. Can't remember who but someone wore out the pots on a 14mz doing that. Also I would think the potential to drop it, knock it off a table , spill on it or generally to get dirt in it is too high.
