IMAC in Saskatchewan
I guess it has to start somewhere. So I would be prepared to offer the use of my runways (and 2400 sq ft shop for inside stuff) for some sort of IMAC event in the new year.
I have contacted my MAAC ZD and to date have not received any confirmation that he got my e-mail. Also spoke to the Deputy ZD. While patience isn't one of my virtues, my gut is tellin' me that anything IMAC is going to have to come from the grass roots pilots that want to get into some sort of competitive flying. If anyone is interested, or knows anyone that may be interested feel free to PM me here on RCC or get ahold of me at eyecanfly@hotmail.ca Brent |

Re: IMAC in Saskatchewan
Brent,
Way to go man. What were you trying to contact your ZD for, a sanction for an event or something? Sounds like you are going to have to JUST DO IT. As the saying goes.... If YOU build It, They WILL come....

Re: IMAC in Saskatchewan

But per haps the ZD could do a mass email to the clubs and inform them of your intentions or hopes?

Re: IMAC in Saskatchewan
Yup, option 2 was what I was lookin' for!!!! This "One Day" workshop Lee was speaking of sounds like it would be a good start. And I have no objections if people want to stay for the next day either.
Kind of tired cutting 7 acres of grass to fly by myself!!! The way I see it, as I am not a MAAC sanctioned field, I doubt a guy would need a sanction for a 1 day workshop. Of course I would insist all participants that would be flying would have their MAAC membership in order. If there is more interest closer to the "Urban Bubbles" of Saskatoon or Regina, I would gladly travel to where we get the best bang for the effort. |

Re: IMAC in Saskatchewan
A+ for stepping up Brent!
That's the only way things start or happen... people getting proactive. Consider contacting Lee and ask if the SA committee can do a mass email to to the known IMAC members in your general area. Doesn't draw in any new talent but it's a start on getting the word out. Also, if you browse the MAAC site you could possibly find other flying clubs, nearish by, that you could contact directly as opposed to through MAAC. If you have a local hobby store you could leave word, or a flier, there as well.

Re: IMAC in Saskatchewan
Great idea Brent.
Are you thinking along the lines of a workshop, or more towards a contest theme? Is it to early to have a "time of year" idea. I realize, seeding/harvest times are out. Subscribed. -Dale- 100% free webcam site! | Awesome chicks and it is absolutely free! | Watch free live sex cam - easy as 1-2-3

Re: IMAC in Saskatchewan
Thanks for the ideas Rick, I have done all of those except contacting the SA committee. Tried (twice) to get the closest MAAC Club to hold a GH IMAC Challenge, being a new club I guess they're suffering growing pains......
At this point in time I'm guessing a one day workshop with a GH IMAC Challenge is the way to go. I'm thinking that the weekend of April 26th, 2014 would be a sweet date. This time of year can be a bit unpredictable here in the home of glider fuel! That's why I mentioned using my shop for ground school. I will get to work on what I would have to do to use the Municipal airport (paved) as an alternate site. Rain, with our soil makes flying near impossible here! |

Re: IMAC in Saskatchewan
Congrats Brent and as Jim said, build it and they will come. I would suggest you host an IMAC seminar sometime in February or march to get the juices going and see who,s interested. The seminar can consist of reading Arest and some IMAC judging criteria, airplane and radio setups for proper aerobatics and maybe some foamie flying if you have the time and space
For your first contest keep it simple and perhaps try a few one day sessions as I am suggesting first to see if you have interest. You only need about ten pilots to host an IMAC contest but I would recommend a two day event which really makes people feel like they are in a real contest rather than a funfly. The Saturday night dinners are always enjoyable and if you have unknowns the fun really starts! With a small group you can fly only one line, and get everything done by 2pm on the Sunday which gives everyone time to get home in good time. We'll all help you if you need it
