Is there a difference between a hardware store heat gun vs a rc covering heat gun

I've been told there is, but so far I've had good luck with the low setting on my inexpensive Mastercraft heat gun. Just have to use with caution I guess.

You just need to be careful as some of the hardware store ones are much hotter than we generally use. I think the max heat for some of our covering is 400F.

I use a cheap gun I got at Princess Auto, has a low and high setting plus an air control damper. The cheap ones work just fine, just be aware of how much heat it's putting out.

Many years ago, I was in the middle of a recovering project when my Top Flight heat gun packed it in. I was in a hurry to finish the project and didn't want to wait for the mail ordered replacement, so I purchased a Milwaukie heat gun, on sale a Canadian Tire. It was a very good replacement at half the cost. It produces considerably more heat than the modelling version, so I need to be a bit more careful, but I'm still using it today.

There is nothing remarkable about an "RC" heat gun. I like the one I have from a "paint stripping kit" that has a dial to adjust the temp depending on how much shrink I want. I used the heat probe from the multi-meter to set temps and made marks on the dial for quick setting.

Number of years ago mine quit. The motor was gone . Went to Proncess auto and was lucky to pickup a cheap surplus replacement motor and replaced it. Works like a charm, since.
