I do not see what the problem was. The heli pilot asked the fixed wing pilot if he minded. We have a couple of fixed wing pilots that fly around completely oblivious to what other pilots are doing. When they takeoff every one else lands. They have been involved in a couple of mid air's. It is the same with those pilots that fly the 125 MPH aircraft. The other club member had no right to tell him to leave. If he was a danger to the people in the pitts or the other aircraft, then he should be told.

Re: I guess helis and planes don't mix

Anytime there's a mid air at my field we all laugh like hell. There's alot of guys out there with panties 2 sizes too small and there always will be!

Share the air time....sun shines for more than a couple of hours.

I guess its the same all over. Im just bummed as I consider them all good people and friends. Our record is three mid airs, drove into the pits and massacred a wing and stepped on someone elses wing. This is in the first four months of the year. All one person. Has been pretty good lately though. I just land when I hear him fire up grab a chair and watch the show.

Re: I guess helis and planes don't mix

Ive been to several clubs in the States....they keep them seperate. Our club also does. However...I did once fly on the plank side... A 69 dollar foamy came inches of destroying my 1200 dollar heli. I no longer take the chance.

I've been a victim of the shared airspace violation. Indoors, small electric heli vs a foamy bipe. Guess who won! Well, we both went down, however I replaced a couple parts and went back flying. Him, not so much.

Re: I guess helis and planes don't mix

Helis and planes can mix at a field no problem. It all depends on the attitude of the people at the club. At our club, most people love aviation. And that means helis, planes, kites, ballons, rockets, jets, autogyros, you name it.

Sharing the field is not a problem. Most of the time we take turn, tough occasionally it will be mixed flying if the pilots agree in advance.

This is a scenario that I am sure happens a lot.

2 parties make an agreement to fly and then mr 3'rd party noses in and imposes his "rule" on the 2 that were flying. What a load of crap.

I have RC'd all my life and the majority of people I meet are really nice people. But yea, there are many fun-killing a-holes in RC as well. In some places more than others.

Reminds me of the time I saw a father and son standing back at the spectator line of our club. I walked over to introduce myself and say "hi". I asked them if they had any questions and if they wanted to try flying RC with a buddy box.
Next week they showed up again and handed me an application to join. I looked at their application and I noted they were FAR away. So far in fact, that they lived closer to several other clubs. I told them our club was a far drive from where they lived and they could join a club closer to where they lived and save themselves a lot of driving.

Their answer: "We want to join your club because the atmosphere here seems warmer and friendlier". I asked them what they meant, and they said of all the other clubs they visited, I was the first one to say "hello" and make them feel welcome. Everywhere else they went, they were ignored and treated like outsiders. No one ever said "hello" or even recognized that they were even there!. If that is how some people in RC behave, is it any wonder why people choose to fly in fields and parks and not join a flying club?

Well at the next club meeting all members present went over club rules and recommendations. Ended up well for everyone. Less rules more fun. Now that is has been discussed should be fine.
