Why?

When I learned, there were no buddy boxes, no trainer cords and no simulators.

Besides, with many low wing planes - Astro Hog as an example - they are no harder to learn to fly on and in many cases easier than the loads of so-called highwing trainer BARFS.

Re: bottom wing plane

I think that the biggest difference you will notice is that while the high wing plane will tend to return to level flight when you centre the controls the low wing plane will continue to go where it is pointed. You must fly it all of the time. This is a bit of a simplification, but in your case it is probably true. Another thing with the low wing plane it will do almost everything faster. Take off speed and landing speed will be higher, roll rate higher and generally more responsive to the controls. Try not to over control the plane because it will react to your control input more quickly than a high wing plane.
If you are not sure, get a more experienced pilot to help you.

Great! You will get used to the speed after a few flights. The thing to do untill you are used to the speed is to keep the flights simple. Don't try to do too many fancy moves yet. Get the air time and it will all come your way.
I'm glad it worked out well. Some pics will be cool.
