I had an OS 1.60 on mine and it was really too much, the ST 2300 would likely be too much as well. I don't think you need to go beyond the 1.08 - 1.20 range in 2 strokes.

gotta learn to fly in to land also, the plane slows right down when the power is off
Craig,

Only a 16 x 8 on a Saito 150FS?

I am running that prop on my OS 1.08 2S. Are you going for speed or vertical climbing authority? I would think with that big round cowl on the Soook you would want as much prop as possible. What kind of RPMs were you getting with the 18" prop? Just curious perhaps I am overproping my poor little 1.08.
I run a 16x8 APC on my Saito 150 for Dave Patrick ultimate. I've read some people use 18x6, but I decided to go with what a reviewer used. (because they always tell the truth - right ) I've had no issues with the combination.

Thanks for the info Terry! Do you think it is just simply a waste of power or is it a weight issue? The 2300 (1.40) new right now is under 200 Cdn!
I do want it to fly with authority!

Terry,
Brandon just got the plane RTF this week (finally!) and I am off for the weekend. WHen I get back we will test fly it and report back.

Obviously the OS 160 is overkill for the plane, but there is a throttle The wing loading is reasonable. I just saw Craig's fly 2 weeks ago with the 150 and it slowed down really well for easy landings (well, thats being nice, eh Craig?? )

I have seen the CG Suk fly with a 91 two stroke (marginal IMO) I have flown it with a 1.08 (not too bad!) and seen one fly with a 1.20 FS (just about right). I think the 150 Saito, or a good 120 two stroke would be just fine for any IMAC stuff, and more than enough to hover and pull out with authority.

I have not run the 2300 - but I wouldnt hesitate to buy one, I have had numerous ST engines in the past and all ran fine for me, even my 2000.

When I built my Ohio Giles, it was the same size as the Suk (maybe a little larger) and about 12 pounds target weight. It was built around the 2300.

I know it would be more than enough engine, thats for sure.

I agree 100%. Hughes500E, with the 1.60 you have unlimited vertical at 1/2 throttle. If that is what you are looking for then its just right. I would ask around your area to see what kind of success the guys have had with the 2300. We have only had one in this area and it has not been a stellar perfomer. When it runs well it kicks a$$ but it runs that way for only a few flights and then all of a sudden it leans out for a flight or two, flames out, etc. for no apparent reason.

There are a few guys in our club that run large ST engines. I believe they all mix their own fuel. No 2300's though! a couple of 3250's and larger. I have read a number of problems associated with the OS1.60 in regards to needing pumps etc. Not too many choices in this range! Where are you Dave
Steve needs an engine

OK, Brandon test flew the Suk/OS 160 yesterday.... he had 2 flights and gave me one too

That plane, firstly, is a great flyer. Its honest, and even at 11 1/2 lbs is a floater. However, the 160 is so much power, I dont think I went past 1/2 to 3/4 throttle more than once! I would even suggest setting the throttle end point to limit it to 3/4 open Its crazy power for that plane!

However, flying at 1/4 to 1/2 the entire flight, you are burning no more than a smaller (say a 120) engine running at a higher throttle setting.

Other than a few small issues we sorted out at the field (pinched off pressure line) Brandon did a great job and he is on his way to his first IMAC contest in July with the plane (thanks Terry!).

I still think a 120 four stroke or two stroke would be ideal for the plane. The 2300 ST should be just about right, if not still a little much...
