Spad VII Colour Scheme
Hi All,
I am building a 42in. span Spad VII for WW1 Combat. I have colour documentation for a R.F.C version that is simple, but a bit 'boring' as far as WW1 schemes go... My research has led me to find out about the French Ace, Rene Fonck. He flew Spad VII's in the spring of 1917. He got credited with 75 victories, but claimed 127 ! ( My kind of combat pilot ! hehehe ) Can anyone help me find a Rene Fonck Spad VII colour scheme ? Here is some info I have: -he joined Groupe de Chasse No 12 'les Cigognes' on April 15th, 1917. -a caption from a B/W photo says:" in April 1917 Fonck joined Escadrille SPA103, which flew SPAD S7s as part of Les Cigognes." The Cigognes had a stork painted on the sides of the fuselage, behind the cockpit. -From the Air Ages line drawings, the 1917-18 Spad VII colours were a light green/tan camoflage on the upper surfaces, and a light grey bottom. I think the French roundels (red outer ring) will look brighter than the R.F.C. (blue outer ring) ones..and...I won't have to paint the thin white line around the R.F.C. roundels ! ! ! Any help would be very much appreciated. Any good websites out there ? I enjoy the research/learning as much as building/flying scale planes. Take care, have fun, Dave'crosscheck'Fallowfield Maac 6437 Oakville Model Flying Club Unabashed Combat Team |
