Dave Patrick Ultimate Build Thread

I have recently purchased a NIB Dave Patrick Ultimate ARF. I have spent a couple of days now assembling the plane and when I got to the fitting of the wings i have an issue with the top wing. The first thing I noticed was that the interplane struts were jarred one way. So i thought that there was a twist in the wing. But apon further investigation there was no twist in the wing at all. What I did was removed the bolts from the center cabane and the wing sat nicely ontop of the interplane stuts and was sitting about 1/4" back of the center cabane. The center cabane does not look like its supposed to be adjustable but I may be able to adjust the position of it.

One thing I'm confused about adjusting the cabane is that the CG is related to the center cabane so I have no idea if I'm going to be throwing something way out of proportion

I have only read good things about this plane and can only think that I have got something backwards or there is an easy fix for this. I wish I could get ahold of Dave Patrick himself and ask him some questions about my situatuion.

Here are some pictures of what I got

Re: Dave Patrick Ultimate Need Help

look at the first picture and see where the holes are. Thats with the two interplane struts on the outside attached and thats where the center cabane lines up

Re: Dave Patrick Ultimate Need Help

Your 2 interwing struts are upside down. They are not letting the top wing sit that 1/4 inch forward that you need.

Exactly right Brad.

You may have to switch sides with your interplanes also.

Re: Dave Patrick Ultimate Need Help

Well flipping the interplane struts upside down didn't do it. I tried switcing them left to right up to down. It's quite clear that they only go one way. If you look at my pictures compared to yours I have the struts the the same way you do.

Do you still have your plane? Maybe you could measure some stuff on your and compare with mine?

Re: Dave Patrick Ultimate Need Help

To me it looks like Brad's outer struts have the wider end on the bottom, whereas yours are on the top. Unless that's an optical illusion, I think you've got them opposite to Brad's.

The central strut looks to be in the same orientation, however.

Just my observations. I have no idea how to fix it if that isn't the problem.

No, I don't have it anymore. I sold it to move on to a bigger Ultimate last year.

Re: Dave Patrick Ultimate Need Help

Hey Tyler

The struts are wider on the bottom then the top. when i flip over the struts the angle just doesn't work out. they only seem to go one way. I'm gonna go play with it some more see if I can figure out this puzzle. I really don't believe that there is something wrong with this plane. I have never heard a bad thing about it.
