And this one

And this one

One of these should work for you.

This link will give you more details on each of the above starters.

I think that the belt drive one is probably what you want.

Re: whats the best starter

I would highly recommend the Sullivan Megatron Starter. I have one and my friend has had one for several years. It will easily turn over and start a magneto based Quadra 75. I doubt it would have problems with any engine 100cc or below.

I've used it to start DL50s with no problems.

The best starter is the one attached to the end of your arm.

If you ain't got the poop to flip that prop on a 25 cc or 35 cc electronic ignition gas engine, there's something wrong with your engine or technique or both. And you ain't gonna have enough strength to lift your plane, field box or transmitter either - or your Megatron starter for that matter.

Now maybe if you had a field assistant to do all those things for you...

Re: whats the best starter

A club member has the sul 651, it has two handles making it very easy to use with the aid of a helper holding the plane. As the starters get stronger they also get bigger and heavier. If handleing them with one hand is a problem then this one may be just what you are looking for. This thing has some serious torque and would likely start your car.

Re: whats the best starter

If you can get your hands on Robbe super starter (standard size diameter but extra long and VERY strong on a good 12V battery) you can start up to 50cc no problem.

However, I cannot see why, with a modern auto advancing electronic ignition equipped engine and a prop set at the correct position (2 oclock works for me) you are having trouble hand propping.

You dont have to crank them up like a glow engine, the spark is hot even at a very slow rpm and most engines I have run including most of the MVVS/Evo line will easily hand flip start with a fairly easy yet firm flip.

I really think it will take more strength to hang on to a powerfull starter, keep it centered on the cone so it doesnt vibrate off, and press hard enough into the cone to get enough friction to turn it over (never mind carrying a heavy battery and the starter to the field) than to learn the technique of hand starting a modern gasser.

I dont know you, and I am not trying to be a smart ass, but my 78 yr old father can easily handle it - you probably could as well. If you are worried about kick backs, they dont happen with a moidern ignition unless its been improperly set up or tampered with.

Your statement
(I don't know you, and I am not trying to be a smart ass, but my 78 yr old father can easily handle it )
That was improper for me to say that the other night but sometime my rejection pills kick in and I get a little touchy.
So to all that took offence == I apologize

My thoughts were sincere - having tried starting many larger engines with an electric starter, I do believe that it is almost "harder" in many ways than learning to hand flip them. The high torque of the starter coupled with the strength to hold it both firmly against the prop/spinner and in line as not to wobble off and into the prop arc requires some strength - probably a lot more than hand starting. But whatever means you go for, good luck and I do recommend the Robbe unit. However I boguht mine years ago (maybe 95') and I dont know if they are still available.
