Vibration?

That's a surprise. One would think they would be extremely smooth like the real thing.

I was thinking of putting my Wankel in an Airtractor (get your mind out of the gutter!)AT-301, haven't found a kit though. It's supposed to have a radial engine, but I think the Wankel would look good. Plus they're usually Cub yellow.

I found a few articles that say the Wankel is a decent powered engine for a 30, but it leaks fuel like crazy. They are apparently built "sloppy" and I did find an article somewhere where a guy took it apart, reworked it, and eliminated a bunch of the excessive play. I think he stated it ran well, but it still spewed fuel all over the place.

Something to think about.

As far as noise goes, it's good to see the manufacturers helping us out as Laser is!

I have the OS Rotary engine and the 6' radial Beaver from Unionville as well. I think it will make a nice combo. Now as soon as I finish all the other kits lined up ahead of it...

Cheers!

Thanks guys for the Wankel input.

I think I'll foget about the Wankel and use a 4 stroke.

Better value for the money and they are reasonably QUIET.

I will be using a muffler even though I will be using a small 4 stroke.

It's that noise abatement thing.

Any decent .30 puts out as much power as a 46 LA -- which still leaves the wankel as something less than a powerhouse.

I broke in 2 wankels in a T/F DC 3 last year
they are very smooth engines, a bit thirsty, about like a .60
also not very loud with 3 blade props.
I only taxied the DC 3 in not so short grass, had very positive accelleration.
beautyfull music when in sync.

Hi

Glad to hear they are quiet with the 3 bladed prop.

Since they are a different type of engine do you think that a quieter muffler would adversly affect their performance as much as it would on a normal 2 stroke engine?

have not tried it but they are timed by ports like a 2 stroke, so they might be affected by back pressure.
they have no idle adjustments on the carb, but idle very well with instant response. and the faster they turn the smoother they seem to be
( sounds like nonsence but that was my feeling )
I might break down and buy that DC3 with those sweeties

You might be surprised if you put a tuned muffler on it. The downside would be more fuel consumption and more prop noise.

I have driven a Wankel powered car and they are the same way. Smooth as silk but thirsty on gas.

I think that it is worthwile starting a thread on Wankel engines.

Too bad they don't make a 60 size Wankel.

HOWEVER, this thread is all about addressing the noise issue and I would like to get back on track here.

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it.

Cheers
