Re: onboard glow igniter?

You can make your own remote glow wiring harness

Take an old glow plug and drill out the center so an antenna tube will slide thru the center.

Epoxy or crazy glue the tube in place and trim 1/8 inch longer than the plug body at each end.

You may use steel or copper wire that just fits inside the antenna tube and cut it about an inch long and glue with the same glue as before leaving an equal length exposed at each end of the modified glow plug.

The thread for the glow plug is 1/4 32 the same as the holding nuts for small electronic switches and pushbuttons from Radio Shack.

Trim the end you attach the glow driver to until the glow driver easily locks on and comes off just like a glow plug

The rest is easy make up a ground wire using two lugs that will connect the body of the modified plug to the engine crankcase (I use the mounting bolts)

The hot wire can be soldered to the wire extending through the plug and use what ever clip or fitting you have to connect the glow plug on the engine.

I have used two small wheel collars and soldered a wire between them. Use the set screw to attach to the engine glow plug and to the wire extending through the modified glow plug. You can mount the modified extension in a convenient place however try to keep the extension as short as possible.

Use the nuts from the Radio shack switches to mount the modified plug. I have just glued the thing in the side where the wood is at least 1/4 inch without having it come loose.

Hope this helps
Dennis

Re: onboard glow igniter?

ok i have just figured out a whole new glowplug ignitor for onboard my heli i will be using my traxxas easy start from my boat. seeing i have retired nitrovee for the season as i am getting this heli goin somewhat... i have disassembled my starter only to find out basically that all it has is a white rectangle thing and the wires along with a led and switch. i shall now resolder the switch back onto it and install it back into casing. unless i can actually make it so i can get it to operate off the reciever. shall i post pics of the inside of this unit so you can all see what i am talkin about?

Re: onboard glow igniter?

if i follow the pattern for the hookups i can make the board smaller mind you. and instead of the switch maybe i could activate through transmitter somehow maybe on aux 2 or something...? it was my quik start for the boat. or maybe just find the glow plug ignitor wires and just use the attachment and keep this seperate? ideas here pls thanks guys
