I am using an OS 50 Hyper with a TopFlite 11 x 6 "Power Point" prop fueled by 22% Cool Power. Seems to run well at idle to full out, on the ground. Since this is my first plane, how does one know this is the best prop?? I assume that this can only be done after I learn to fly the GP Extra 300 SP and can't be done on the ground?? Or does it really matter to most beginners/sport fliers??

I'll get some larger props to experiment with. The engine seems to have enough power to swing them.

so first of all if you have a os 50H that is a heli engine !
but it will work for a plane . i would tend to think that a 12x4 or a 12x6 would be best for that engine .

i hope that the extra 300 is not your first plane - you should learn on a trainer first .

Have to agree this is not anywhere near the best combination of prop/motor or plane for learning to fly. I also hope you were not planning on teaching yourself in that machine.

The 50 should swing at least an 11/8 and you should look into 10-15% fuel. The OS 50 was notorious for burning out the piston. I also imagine with that prop and fuel that engine is honking along pretty good. In fact, it might be revving too high.

As for the plane, this is a full out aerobatic machine and for experienced flyers. By design a trainer should resist and help recover from the inevitable beginner mistakes. The Extra follows EVERY command as crisply as possible for snappy maneuvers and will definitely do a goat without hesitation. I know showing up with a trainer to a field of experienced flyers may be akin to riding into a biker bar on a scooter, but in the beginning you have to start learning on an easy forgiving machine. I would put that plane in storage for the day you are ready for it.
