Looking for history on an old kit.
I just came into possession of an old kit. It is an Electric Beaver by Easy Built Models of Grimsby, Ontario. The box is stamped "Made in Canada", but when I search the internet Easy Built Models comes up as Easy Built Models, PO Box 681744, Prattville, AL 36068-1744, USA (??)
They have the same model on their web site, only it is Laser Cut, while this one is printed wood. (cut it out yourself). in both cases, the model is said to be designed by Steve Gray. Anyone have knowledge of the ' parentage ' of this kit? Was Easy Built a Canadian company whose designs were sold off? Just curious.

Re: Looking for history on an old kit.
I was a big fan of easybuilt when they first came out. The price was right, and I always picked up some grat kits when they were at the CNE for a real bargain. That they were a Canadian company at the time also had something to do with it.
A few years (?) ago, I had heard that easy built was sold to a foreign company- Ie outside Canada. I did have one of those beaver kits years ago when electric meant a rack of Sub-C batteries weighing a ton and giving only a few minutes of flight. In spite of the limitations of the power systems in those days, it flew well all things considered. It was a very light but strong construction. With todays Lipos and Brushless, I would bet it would be an amazingpark flier. I regret having sold it off years ago. Good luck with your build.

Re: Looking for history on an old kit.
I too remember the days of Easy Built and their print wood kits being sold at the CNE. That was in the early to mid 1960s. Picjed up the Sunbeam and a Me109.
They showed up every year with a bunch of stuff, which in those days was rubber powered. The CNE was the only place where I ever saw their stuff. Never came across it in any hobby shops, either Canadian or American. After many years, they seemed to disappear. Then when they resurfaced, it was the same designs with an American address. I don't recall the exact location although I do not remember it to have been Alabama. Converting to laser cutting would be a contemporary thing as lasers did not even exist when they were at the CNE. |

Re: Looking for history on an old kit.
Yep, I remember them at the CNE too, would have been early '70's for me, I bought their Stuka for $3.25. I'm pretty sure that it was Rigby's hobbies that was selling them down at the CNE.
Rigby's is long out of business but, used to be located in what is now Bloor West Village (Jane and Bloor) Damm, I've been in this hobby a long time!! Mike |

Re: Looking for history on an old kit.
Any guesses as to what the beaver kit might have gone for back then?

Re: Looking for history on an old kit.
Dave, Steve Gray has FliteCraft Hobby shop in Kitchener and could probably tell you quite a bit about that kit and the company in general - he's a most affable fellow and would answer any E-Mail, I'm sure.
