Low balls dont bother me, but if you put NO TRADES in your post and someone still emails asking if you want to trade for their laptop or something.....duh.....

Or guys who negotiate with you to an agreement, then say hold it for me for a week so I can come up with the $$$. A week goes by and you turn down other offers and the guy emails back saying he cant afford it and you should sell it to someone else.....I have had this happen a few times....irritating to say the least.

Now THAT'S an entirely different matter, and I agree completely! If a buyer makes an offer, it's accepted, and then they decide they don't have the coin...that's inconsiderate and rude. Negative feedback should be left in a case like that. (Unless there are extenuating circumstances.) Again, MHO.

This is totally unacceptable!
When someone agrees to buy something, and asks you to hold it for them, that person should follow-through no matter what.
Normally, a deposit would be required to hold an item, but it's not really practical here, and besides, we're, all gentlemen here, right??
It's just something that should not be done!

Yes, has happened to me too many times!

I had one guy from Toronto buy a heli engine off me on ebay once, and then asked if I could wait for a week untill he sold some of his other stuff to pay me... six weeks later I still havent gotten paid.... then he leaves me negative feedback when I relist the engine!

I have negotiated deals for stuff I later decided I didnt want, but I went ahead and bought the item anyhow, since I told the fellow I was going to buy it allready- its the principal of the thing. Do unto others.... right?

I had a friend do that, he asked for $600 US to hold his $2500 Angels Shadow pattern plane. He even took the plane to a contest in the states to deliver but when he got there the guy backed out and wanted his deposit back. My friend took the plane and the deposit back to Canada with him

I am not so bold to do something like that though. Its only happened to me twice and only when I am trying to sell one of my more expensive planes. I try not to get too worked up over it, I understand that its a bunch of money for someone to shell out for something used.

Too bad about the $600!

If the buyer had a reasonable explanation for backing out, I would have been inclined to deduct a reasonable amount to compensate for my trouble, and refund the rest.
If there was no reasonable explanation, tough-tittie, $600 in my kitty!

Great input guys
I have been low balled a few times.
There is an item that I am after though, so I thought I'd ask everyones feelings. I guess the bottom line is if both party's are happy the deal will go through. If not, probably best to remain kind
I could never not go through with a deal once made though, that would be difficult!

Types of Auctions

Was not there a type of auction (I forget what it was called) where the price started out as the best price the seller could hope to get then the price was reduced little by little till someone jumped on it. Wait to long for a good deal and you loose out. Could be fun.

A couple of weeks ago I contacted Jason about doing a thread on etiquette along the line of this thread. I didn't follow through because we were in the midst of another heated thread at the time and I thought it best to let things cool down for awhile. This thread has covered most of what I was thinking along these lines.

I think this discussion is good especially for the many new comers to RCC in the last couple of months. This thread has stressed the point that if you make an offer and its accepted then you follow through. If for some reason, something happens that you just can't, then at least let he person know so hes not holding the item for you and rejecting other offers because he thinks its sold but two weeks later finds out the deal is not going through and has wasted his two weeks. This happened to me a couple of times lately.

I could use the negative feedback but I really hate to do this because it follows a person around for the rest of his time here at RCC and I didn't really lose anything except a few days of not selling my goods and a bit of inconvenience. If it were something that caused a loss I would not hesitate to warn others through the negative feedback. All the same proper buying AND selling etiquette is important to our community here on RCC.

If your selling something and someone makes an offer it only takes one minute to send a PM or put it in the post saying you accept or "thanks for your offer but no thanks!" Or if you need time to consider the offer or waiting to see if something higher comes in then just say so but I think proper etiquette would dictate that you at least acknowledge all offers.

If I post something for $500 and someone offers $100, hay thats not a problem! Again its my option to either accept for reject it. But I should let the person know what I have decided and I usually try to provide a reason for the rejection if thats the case. Now the ball is back in the potential buyers court to either accept my counter offer or not! And so it goes.

If theres ever a problem with a purchase or a sale the two parties involved should try to work it out first privately in a friendly manner. It may just be a simple misunderstanding. Don't make it an all out blown up skirmish in an open forum first and foremost only to find out later that it was all not necessary. And like I said earlier, if the whole matter was just an inconvenience then maybe its best to just let it go. If you indeed got ripped off then use the Negative Feedback to warn others here at RCC to be aware!

Just a few thoughts I had and MHO!

Hi Gary:

Don't mean to be picky, but I think "eddicate" should be spelled "etiquette". (Took me a while to figure it out, but then I'm slow sometimes!!)
