Digipulse Charger

Is any one using this charger with their JR tx?
I picked one up at a swap meet - it works fine for rx and ignition batteries, I just can't get it to work for the Tx.
The charge cord is fine, it works with my Hobbico charger
All ports on the Digipulse work ok with Rx batteries.

any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Digipulse Charger

If Memory Serves me (correctly)...

The JR Transmitter's Charge jack has the terminals REVERSED from the industry standard. I once fried a wall charged by plugging it into a JR.

My suggestion to you - continue using the Digipulse on all receivers, and use the Well labelled wall charger on the Transmitter.

Good Luck!

Re: Digipulse Charger

I know about the JR plug polarity - and have made up the charge leads accordingly.
I can use my Hobbico charger just fine.
I would keep using the Hobbico one, but it is not as functional as this Ace Digipulse should be.

Re: Digipulse Charger

I seem to remember that because of the diode in the radio, you can't quick charge unless:

1)you bypass the diode or
2)use a quick charger that allows you to disable the "peak" feature (which I think the triton does via menu) or is not a "peak-type" quick charger.

It might depend on the radio as well. In searching for you I came across this item regarding a fuse in the x9303 for example:

http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...se-9303-a.html

Every little bit of info helps.

Re: Digipulse Charger

One - yes, watch out, JR use the reverse of all the Txs I know, but - two, they also use a connector (called AIWA connector) with a 2,1mm center pin as do Hitec, while Futaba and others use one with a 2,5mm center pin. I have found that sometimes the smaller center pin does not make contact when you push it on! I don't know about Spektrum.
Three - most Txs these days have a diode in series with the charge input for protection - but since at a given current, the diode exhibits a constant voltage drop, you can happily charge these Txs from a 'peak detecting' charger - I do all of mine, all the time, using mainly a Triton Jr charger.
Lastly, be careful about charging Tx batteries at too high a rate - these cells are not really formulated to be fast charged.
Hope this helps a little.

Re: Digipulse Charger

When I charge my Tx pack on a regular charger instead of using the wall charger with the radio, I strip a little bit of insulation off each wire and just use the alligator clips. Works for me.

However, I usually just leave the pack in the radio and charge it overnight if I'm flying the next day.

Re: Digipulse Charger

Yup - I know all about the fuse ----
I'm not sure about the diode part -
I can quick charge the Tx using my Hobbico Quick Field Charger,
http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...od_id=HOBP0290
I can charge it using my Hobbico Multi Charger http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...od_id=HOBP0100
of course the wall wart works.
So I don't understand why I can't get the Ace Digipulse charger to work for the Tx battery http://www.acehobby.com/ace/ACE2521.htm

Re: Digipulse Charger

I was reading that there's a light comes on when the "batteries are hooked up". Does it light up when connected to your TX or is it that it lights but doesn't charge?

Re: Digipulse Charger

If you haven't tested the output on the Tx side of the charger do the following.

Try removing the battery pack from the Tx or any pack with the same voltage and hook it up directly to the charger.

If it doesn't work then the Tx output side of the charger is dead.

Re: Digipulse Charger

Hi Ken - the charger is a 6 port multi charger, there is no Tx / Rx difference.

v-ger - I get no lights when I plug the Tx battery to the charger, regardless of the port. My next step is to remove the battery and try it directly to the charger, without going through the Tx circuitry.

thanks for all the suggestions
