Bob.
I have a popwing. I pulled too many gs with it too and the battery ripped out. Now I'm having trouble with the motor. I'm considering taking the motor off. To be honest, I didn't really enjoy flying it that much. I like the yaw control and if you stall it at an angle, it can be very hard to recover. I have a parkzone f27q. I really love it. It has two vertical stabs with the rudders way back with helps a lot with stall recovery and awesome aerobatics. The vortex generators make it more stable too and if it's balanced well, you can cut the motor, pull all the way back on the stick and have a fast crontrolled decent in very high alpha. doing it upside down with full rudder and a bit of reverse aileron makes it do beautiful controlled inverted spins. It might be a good slope plane with a smaller battery and a less aggressive prop. or even no power at all.
I'm going to order another wing for my easy glider. I think I will get an autopilot and use it for experimenting with that. It wont take much work or weight to make the wings much much stronger. I noticed the vulnerability when I was building it but I suppose I put too much faith in multiplex.

I've also thought of modifying my pop wing. I would take the vertical stabs off the wing tips and either order the vertical stabs for an f-27q or make a pair that extend past the end of the wing to give it a lot more stability, yaw control and brakes. In the f-27, the rudders are on different channels and I have them both move inward for brakes as an f-18 does. It's nice to have some kind of brake on anything that glides well, especially when the landing zones are small.

As for servos, I have lots. I found this servo for inder $3 delivered a year and a half ago and I think I ordered over 30 by accident. It was a happy accident because I've never had one fail and all of my planes have at least one of these. They are much better than the servos that come with pnps bnfs or arfs. I make sure I at least have one for mt elevator servo. I have at least 10 left. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1pcs-9g-Servo...item4189ea02c4

Is that your vid?? I'm surrounded by big mountains and dense forest so the idea of not having power is scary. I was inspired by the controls on the leading edge though. I would love use those as droops with flaps and experiment with a powered wing that can fly fast and slow. I have plenty of scratchbuilding stuff but have never done it. Maybe this will be my first project.

Here is a cheaper link to that servo if you buy 4 at a time. My guess is if one searches for a single order of more that they will become much cheaper because the price of shipping is included. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/4-x-Micro-9g-...9f78ec7afcheap servo link

I am sure you will find a usefull slope somewhere among the hills around Calgary. Contact the CRCSS in the city there and see if they will take you to their local slope to try it out.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

I would be surprised if there weren't a number of usable spots around Calgary. We are in some pretty flat country here but there are some good slopes. Not big necessarily but still work. Watch the crows, gulls and hawks around the city on a windy day, they will show you where!

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

I don't contribute much anymore in the sailplane section. I expect that to change. As I just finished a maiden on my Stinger. Yes Bob, it is faster than it looks.

Bob, it does "Rip". Oh, the sound. Excites me.

I acquired this airframe 5yrs ago. Today, I felt more than 5yrs younger, ha-ha.

Life is good! May the breeze be in your face.
