126" Carden Extra 300 - BBT - Build Thread

Yeehaaa... "Wingburner" has decided to take a leap of faith and let me build him Carden`s brand new 43% Extra 300.
http://www.carden-aircraft.com/

Carden is just finishing up the next production run of 15 kits in this style and Jack managed to get his fingers on one! This will literally be hot off of Denis and Caroline`s assembly line.

The kit will arrive at the end of next week with the laser-cut motor box option, new lower density foam and new grade of balsa.

There`s also a very special surprise en route to my house to power this beauty (think "4")! ---> I`ll let Wingburner share the good news with everyone.

After lots of discussion, Jack wants me to do the following mods to the kit....
* Lightening of ply parts on F1, F2, F3, F4, wing tube socket plates, l-gear plate
* Reduction of Sheeting on fuse sides and belly pan
* Lightening of cowl ring
* Enclosed tunnel and pipe set-up
* Coring of foam on wing tips, horizontal stab tips, vertical stab
* Potentially cover the fiberglass cowl with Ultracote if the scheme permits
* Best of all - Durant Direct Drive System

There are a quite a few differences with the new 43%, so I will document the build as usual

Weight isn`t a big concern here since the powerplant will handle anything we can throw at it, but I`d like to see it come in at 40lbs!

Re: 43% Carden Extra 300 - BBT - Build Thread

YEEEEHAAAA is right Finally closing in on getting eveything in place.

Anybody that has followed Trevor's last three builds knows what an awesome job he has done with them incorporating some building techniques I haven't seen before.

Trevor says (think 4)...Yup brokedown and bought a new DA 200...It's gonna rock...Trevor says 40 lbs. for a 43% with a DA 200..That's unbelieveable to me.

Can't wait till it gets started..Alot of new building techniques along with a 4 cylinder, Durant Direct Drive and some other tidbits as well as a BBT aircraft will make this among the top airplanes in Canada.

on Trevor on

If only the machine that spits out those little balls with numbers printed on them would spit out the little balls that have my lotto numbers on them
I would be all over that Ultimate

Then have Trevor build me the Carden Ultimate when it becomes available

Brad.. I called Carden about the Ultimate a few days ago and they have their revised design done and are in the process of getting someone to build it quick, quick so that they can prototype it. If all goes well, Spring 2010 will be release date!! I`m holding out for the Ultimate also!!

About the DA200 -> Jack is having the DA200 sent directly to me (without him ever laying eyes on it!!) and I told him I`m going to touch ever square mm of that engine so that my fingerprints are all over that shiny machined crank.

I`m currently working on perfecting hypnosis over the phone so that he forgets he wanted to do this build and forgets about ordering all this stuff
