As you bring the transmitters closer together nasty things happen. The two transmitters begin mixing and generate a few spurs. Some of those spurs are very strong. The output of the transmitter on the proper frequency is reduced significantly as well. Depending on the channels of each transmitter those spurs can be quite large signals on top of other channels.

My Hobbico scanner arrived today. Wished I had known about the optional extra antenna. Range is 300 feet without the external antenna and up to 800 feet with the external antenna. It is very compact and fits in a shirt pocket.
