Re: Newb nitro flight

It would appear the the right cyclic servo is the one that failed due to the fact that it has the most damage. This is also consistent with the fact that it's also the right servo plug that had melted. The left servo actually sits above a slightly to the side when the frames are together, and it's damage looks as if a fire was set under it.....the fire being the right servo!

So..... Post crash damage? Or cause of the crash?

I'd have to agree.... I won't be looking into re-building it. Instead I'll be looking for a new Heli!

Have you ever seen servos destroy themselves like that? I've only been in RC for a little over a year so I definately haven't. I've worked in electronics for the last 13 years and I've seen my fair share of failures..... but this seems excessive!

Re: Newb nitro flight

Yeah, my buddy had his rudder servo on his GS Sukhoi burn up in flight. It happens. More common is to have them go after a crash. If they're binding up while sitting there after a crash, that motor just stays stalled and keeps chugging away trying to re-center itself. Sooner or later they burn up due to drawing excessive current for too long.

Anyway, it happens. Sucks, but it does.

Re: Newb nitro flight

Wow. I just went through all posts and will say that this is probably the worst crash I've seen so far. Total carnage. Looks like not much survived. Did you hit throttle hold before it went in?

Re: Newb nitro flight

Yeah I tried.... I tried getting out of "idle up" mode too. I may as well have turned off my transmitter, and throw it at the heli. May have been more effective.

Oops, my bad, you've already said it looked like a lockout so it would've been useless anyway. Well, good luck with the search of a new bird. Are you going to be looking for electric or nitro? What size?
