Has anyone built and flown the 60 size Pica Spitfire? I have a chance to buy one which will need a few changes but was just wondering how well they flew.

Pica,which is no longer around,bought out scale king Dave Platt. Pica didn't change the original Platt design. They are high quality kits and great flying scale models.

Built and flew one of these about 10 years ago and then sold the plane. It is still flying today. Sorry that I sold it as it is one sweet plane to fly. The current owner also loves it and won't even sell it back to me for twice the price.
IMHO you can't go wrong with a PICA kit if you can find one. They are a builders kit but worth all the work once you fly it.
Now if you can just find the PICA FW-190 and the T-28 to go with - man would that be a great fleet to have.
And with todays motors, well they can be as hot as you want them to be. I flew mine on old HB61's and was pushing 10.5lbs and each of them was great.
The beauty of PICA kits is they have the wing area to carry that sort of weight without getting nasty.
I say go for it.

Hi Bill

Built one 2 winters ago. Has about 6 flights on it, flies great. I have a saito 91 merlin up front.
Building the Pica 1/5 T-28 right now. Saving the Platt FW 190 for next winter.
Top Flite makes up the rest of my fleet

Thanks guy's, I know about Pica and Platt... great kits. Just needed some info on how this one flew being a smaller model. I've built the 1/6 Waco and have a 1/5 Waco built. I also had the 1/4 scale Bucker Jungmiester kit which I sold a little while ago. That was'nt very smart
Platt was the man for a very long time and I had the pleasure of meeting him down in Toledo a few years ago.

Bill: both my Pica Spitfire and Pica 1/6 Waco fly fantastic. The Spit has over 150 flights on it and not a scratch. The Waco is the same, with well over 70 flights. If you are a good boy, I will let you fly either or both before purchase. . . Cheers - John M.

Bill, I bought one from a Toronto guy 20 yrs ago and built it 10 yrs ago.
Saito 91 with retracts.

It is by far the best flying warbird I have.The Pica has built in wing washout and comes out very light.It flys like its on rails.The only issue if there is one, without flaps it comes in very fast.You get used to it and it really is not bad.
I've had a few dead sticks and it actually glides very well.
Over a 100 flights and I hope to have it for many years.

Ya it fly's awsum and I've found with mine that it comes in for landing remarkably slow. Lots of sq inches on this one. No retracts but I'm extremely pleased with the model overall.

They fly well because it actually weighs what they say it will!
If I see another I'd buy it .

Mine does a wicked Lomchevak.Yes stupid for a spit but for some reason the plane just tumbles through the air well.
