Re: A123 packs available at Thunderboltrc.com

Packs sold by the company A123 generally use 1100mah and 2300mah cells. A123 cells are based on LiFePO4 battery chemistry. There are several other companies and A123 OEM suppliers that make cells in different capacities and output ratings based on the LiFePO4 battery chemistry.

Hi

This is the first time I have seen the statement:

There are several other companies and A123 OEM suppliers that make cells in different capacities and output ratings based on the LiFePO4 battery

Are the cells that Thunderbolt R/C is selling actual A123 cells or just similar to them? Are they manufactured under licence from A123 Systems?

Since many of us are having difficulty finding A123 cells, it might be beneficial to post some links to these companies that make the other sizes of A 123 cells so we can check out the specs on them.

Thanks

Re: A123 packs available at Thunderboltrc.com

The cells that are in the packs that Thunderboltrc.com is selling are based on the LiFePO4 battery chemistry (The same battery chemistry that A123 cells are based on). These cells are OEM cells, they are not the same as the cells that you will find in a battery pack sold by the company A123 systems.

Generally, an A123 pack will have a capacity of 2300Mah, and a nominal current rating of 30C or 60C depending on the exact cells.

These packs have a capacity of 2200Mah and have a nominal current rating of 20C.

Both have a 1000+ cycle life

They charge and discharge the same as A123 cells. (I.e you use the same A123 setting on your charger to charge them).

I'm sorry but I'm not going to post the manufacturer of these cells because I have spent too much time and money finding a manufacturer to make these for me. I really don't want to make it too easy for my competitors to obtain the same packs that I am selling.

Please let me know if you have any other questions,

Grizak

Re: A123 packs available at Thunderboltrc.com

Michel,

You will need a charger that is capable of charging A123 packs (sometimes referenced on certain chargers as to as A123, LiFe, LiFePO4, or Lithium Nanophosphate).

I do not believe the Accucycle has this capability.

Some popular charges are the FMA Cellpro 4s, and The Bantam BC6.

Maybe you should have just used google. There are several sources from China. I would guess these are the cells you are selling.

Re: A123 packs available at Thunderboltrc.com

I'm really trying to find out if the rumour that A123 is coming out with higher capacity cells is true.

As far as I know the A 123 cells have at least a 2000 plus cycle. You can draw 70 amps continuous from a 2300 ma cell.

Is the outer shell of your batteries aluminum?

How about posting some discharge curves for these cells. If the chemistry is the same then the discharge curve will be the same.

I check them out on the site.
If they aren't genuine A123 cells why does it say A123 on the pack?

Thanks
