Nova Scotia Helis on Ice Fun Fly - Nova Scotia

We're sharing some stories and photos of our recent Helis on Ice fun-fly that took place this past weekend on Killdog Cove, in Parkdale, Nova Scotia. The cove is situated on Sherbrooke Lake in Lunenburg County and about 30kms from Mahone Bay (home of the Bluenose Schooner).

Weather is always a factor when planning outdoor events in Nova Scotia in February. The gods smiled on us and the promised -14c and 50km gusting winds by lunch never fully materialized. We flew all day (the sun actually shone in the morning) and the wind was never that bad - it actually warmed up to minus 3c!!

The pilots did a great job of keeping machines in the air all day. This was very popular with all those who attended and local cottage owners and residents who came down to watch. We certainly racked up our share of unintended landings - however I understand (two days later) that most of the helis are on the mend or back in the air!

Colin Bell, sponsored by Curtis Youngblood Enterprises and Great Hobbies, was on hand and added some amazing (as always) aerobatics to the general heli flying we all managed despite cold toes and fingers.

A roaring bonfire kept the outdoor observers warm while mulled cider and Christie and Barbs Chilli hit the spot (many thanks ladies!!). Also kudos to Kevin, John, Owen, Murray, Andreas, Bun, Colin, Denis, Jim, and liz for your piloting and/or video/photography skills. You all rock!

Planning is already underway for 2012 Helis on Ice and an Atlantic Heli Fun-fly this coming summer.

There are a few photos posted here and a bunch more in a second Colin Bell Rave post. Enjoy! Videos of Colin and the Rave? - Colin Bell - Curtis Youngblood RAVE 90 - Helis On Ice 2011
