Wondering about charging these.

I reviewed Wayne's thread about keychain cams but didn't find an answer. Or I'm too dense to understand (now now, don't agree too quickly).

I found this one

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Mini-DVR-808-...item2a1721820c

which really puts out good video

but wondered how you charge the internal battery? It says 250ma lipo is used but is this a one cell (or two?) that uses one of those little white connectors?

So you have to use an external lipo to charge the internal button battery (lion)?

Something like this

Re: KeyChain Cams--Wayne M?

My V3 charges through the USB port while connected. I don't know about internal charge regulation, so really only leave it connected for 20 minutes or so.

They are USB charged, 5V nominal. Much more and you let the magic smoke out.

Re: KeyChain Cams--Wayne M?

I have the #3 808 cam and it charges via the USB port on my computer. I read up on it and apparently there is an over-charge protection built in. Mine does get quite warm when charging and I do disconnect it after an hour or so just to be safe. The downside is you never know when the batt is fully charged

Re: KeyChain Cams--Wayne M?

AH. So why do they show in their ad a pic of a battery hooked up to the lead?

Would that be so it could be charged at the field??

Re: KeyChain Cams--Wayne M?

cool - I am guessing that the #16 is the latest and greatest of the 808 cameras!
might have to look into getting one of those.

A fully charged lipo 1 cell is 4.2V, so you are running the cam off the lipo for a much longer period than the interval battery.

Re: KeyChain Cams--Wayne M?

If you want an very good review of the different versions have a read here:

http://www.chucklohr.com/808/index.shtml

There was also a corresponding page regarding what are supposed to be HD versions:

http://www.chucklohr.com/808/C11/ind...sibleReal808HD

I use mine often for onboard vids mounted to the Polaris foamie. Considering the cost they turned out better than expected, with the only complaint being contrast when facing toward the sun. Originally I simply taped over the mic on the front of the case, but you still get wind noise through the lens opening. I popped the case open recently to check the battery number regarding an upgraded replacement and covered the mic with light foam.

I had it on the Skybolt only once and may stick it on some of my other aircraft this season.

Here is the link to one of the Polaris vids:
