As for switching to kits this winter.....

I have two ARF's that would be great to get ready for next year, a 70" ws Zero and 64" ws Sea Fury. Neither one would take a great deal of time to assemble, even with adding my own touches to them.

That being said, I also really enjoy building, and may finally tackle a Do335 Arrow that I have been wanting to do for many years. Found a nice kit available online which includes CAD drawings, laser cut parts and glass cowls, and it's a size that I am interested in (60" ws). As would like to do a Brian Taylor Me109 and already have plans for the BT Bf110 which would make a great first electric twin.

Too many projects, too many ideas, not enough time or money!!! LOL

Ed I would have loved one of those!!!! Not for racing though, so it might have been a bit of a waste.

Awesome looking planes!

That's quite alright, I've got a new kit sitting here with a new nelson waiting for me. Just finishing up a Larson Vendetta right now for a friend of mine, then we'll be onto my own stuff.

Re: Who's switching to kits this winter?

I have a kit or two floating around, and always have a scratch building project (or 4) in my head, Just gotta figure out how to find the time. This working for a living sux!

I got a Patriot kit in the box I got from some fellow in Sask (Hey Curt), and I have a Do 28 Skyservant scratch project on the go.
I also have several sheets of COROPLAST for building combat planes.

I have built the RCM Snow Bird CT114 and powered it with a OS.46.with a Perry pump. As I recall it flew pretty good, keep the speed up and fly it like a jet and it will have no problem. The only issue I had was taking off from our grass runway with the small wheels. I also compounded the problem by making the plane heavy. I added Rudder and speed brakes (2 extra servo's and linkeges, and a bunch of lead in the nose to ballance it) I would not add rudder or brakes if I were to build annother.
I had a 10-6P prop and it screamed out in the air....needs a 10-8P. When you first start the test flying, put a regular "puller" prop on for start up and tuning the engine, with the pusher prop the engine will over heat very quickly. (just don't forget to switch back..unless you want to empress the guys with your reverse taxing skills).

Re: Who's switching to kits this winter?

I drew a set of plans for a Fairchild FC-2W, so that's what I'll be working on.. But I have to ask what happened to all the E-Flite elec ARF kits. They all seemed to go up in price by about 75% just in the last month or two.. Was thinking of getting a Taylor Craft for $110 but now is $190.. Kits here I come or plans or draft my own..

Re: Who's switching to kits this winter?

I did build a SSE last winter, great kit well designed. One thing you have to know, on the first ribs make sure that the holes for the dowels are on the good side. Wich is under the centerline of the rib. If not you will have a 20 degrees winng incidence. And let me tell you that on the maiden when it starts to loop and loop you just freak out.

Goood build

Yes i did save it fortunately, i cut the trotle and brought it back to the grass but it was going like a dead leaf. It was quite stressful. Now that i fixed the problem the plane goes well.
