Re: HK/Turnigy Quality
Complete Turnigy power system in this bird. Nanotech battery. 85amp ESC. I am using the BEC. Not a lot of flights yet but no problems so far.
As others have said, I planned the whole thing out so I was not pushing it any where near the stated capacities. Along with huge cooling air scoops and it seems fine so far. I was not too worried about an airframe that I only have 40 bucks into (bought used complete) and it should land dead-stick quite easy if the power did go out. I am not so sure I would trust my TO to the motor though. Pretty cheesy the way the wires are routed into and attached to the motor.

Motors from HK are a bit hit or miss. The Turnigy Aerodrive SK series for example appeared to have several issues with poorly glued motor magnets. I suggest doing your research via Google for the particular motor you might be interested in before buying. Personally, I don't buy any motors from HK. I spend a few more coin and buy Motrolfly motors from Subsonic Planes in the US. They are very well built and Ken @ Subsonic backs it up with great customer service. I don't have much experience with servos as I only use 5g & 9g sub micro sizes. The Towerpro HXT series is what I use and they are generally very reliable, but not the smoothest or best centering servos out there. |

Re: HK/Turnigy Quality
This old Byron Christen Eagle foamy, 18 lbs, is pretty well all hardwared with HK goodies. Motor is Turnigy 6364 3000watt motor and in it's third plane. 100 amp Turnigy Sentilon ESC and turnigy 5 amp BEC. Two 5 cell Zippy Rhino 4900 ma batts in series for 10 cells. Covering material is from HK at 8 bucks for 5 metres!! That's a little more than 15 ft. Goes on like Ultracote. Stretches and shrinks very well with low heat. Remember this is a foam plane with the covering directly on the foam. This is the fourth yr for the batts and I had her up today for the first time this yr. Batts were left fully charged over the winter as I always do, and they were still 93% charged so I didn't even bother to charge them for the flight.
