Magneto Kill

What is everyone using to remotely switch off their magneto engines? I have an old style G38 that doesn't have a choke. I'm not entirely comfortable having the throttle stop as the only kill source.
I've been looking around, but there is some serious debates on what to use. Great planes has discontinued their servo/micro switch method, and any electronic switches seem to have been discontinued.

Thoughts/advice?

Just use a switch and a servo on fail safe. That should do the trick.

Re: Magneto Kill

Have you looked at the Killer Bee systems that the 1/5th gas buggy/truck guys use?

Re: Magneto Kill

Looks like it's right for the job. One question, says it's not compatible with AVC equipped receivers. What's AVC?

Re: Magneto Kill

AVC is horizons 'safe' technology for the RC Cars. This kill is marketed to the Gas rc car guys.

Re: Magneto Kill

I'm currently doing the same. I used a servo and a micro switch, the switch can be wired normally on or normally off. Very simple and safe set up. My motor does not have a choke either. The wire comes from the coil to the switch and out of the switch to ground, anywhere on the motor

Re: Magneto Kill

Found these electronic switches that apparently work with magneto engines. In theory they should work but I have no experience with them. Might be worth looking at.

Re: Magneto Kill

Something to consider is what do these various kill switches do if the radio link is lost, or even worst, what if all power is lost?

With surface models it's simple. Completely kill the motor and the model stops.

With aircraft, gravity takes over.

One has to consider all the scenarios:

1. Radio link is lost.

2. Throttle linkage mechanical failure.

3. Battery power is lost.

I'm not an airplane expert, correct me if I'm wrong but I would think that you would NOT want the engine to kill in case #1, but rather pull back to idle in the hopes that the radio link re-establishes before the model hits the dirt. In case #3, kill the engine.

You also want to be able to completely kill the engine in the case where the radio link IS working.
