For that one you really benefit from the big throws.

Rather than the one large servo you have now, why not try putting one stnd servo working EACH 'ron (ie: two servos)? Make sure your control rods are as short as practical to minimize "bending" and try to put them in the middle of each 'ron rather than close to the "fuse".

Well I bought a hitec hs 635 servo that gives me 70 oz of torque which should be more than enough on the alierons. I figured with my extra long arms on the servo that I should get lots of throw. Right now at 100% on the radio I have 60 degree each way on the ailerons. elevator 50 degrees and rudder 45 degrees

I am thinking the elevator is a bit much but thats why I have a computer radio and dual rates.

Are these rates enough or to much.

I used a protractor to measure the angle. To much throw for my throw meter

Brian, have you flexed the control surfaces to their maximum deflection to crease the hinge line? This should take some of the pressure away.

Test flight.

Well I had enough time today to do a series of test flights, I know have it sorta managable. I pre balanced the plane on the wire point(cg) and was bang on. In the air it is a different story. Tail drags around and go to inverted to takes a second to completly flip over. The tail just falls out of the sky. I have a shim under my engine to give me down thrust. Plus I have some down trim to make it fly some what stable during upright flight.

I have the ailerons level with the fuse line.
I also have 70% expo in every thing.

What cg point is proper?

Oh ya the tail came loose or I would have kept trying things at the field. Going to bolt it.

Right know it is easier to ask in the comfort of an air contitioned house than sweat it out at the field.

Well I looked at the plan cg and I don't know why I didn't see it. I picked the wrong cg point. actually 3/4 inch behind the recommended zone. Moved some weight around and is balanced alot better. Hope to try it today.

Bryan, This plane loves rearward CG, just keep moving it back untill you feel comfortable. Mine is so far back I barely use down elevator, just throttle management.
The farther back the CG, the better it will perform all the tricks, and will give a solid hands off hover. The tradeoff is climbing with increased trottle, diving with down elevator movements.
Play with the CG untill you like it. The plans CG ref is a starting point IMO.
Take out the down thrust (defeats hovering ability) add some up if any.
Good luck, and have fun!

Tested the plane again with the proper cg. Alot better. I am running a os 46fx With a 11X4 Master airscrew. The vertical is kinda weak, barely climbs out of a hover.
I had it in a perfect flat spin. I don't know how I got in it, but was really cool. It harriers very well.

Gota extend the landing gear. It chops grass with the gear I made.
I will weigh the plane soon.

Your prop is to small. Get rid of the Master. Try an APC 12 X 4 or if you want to spend more try an APC 12.25 X 3.75. I have had better performance with the former.
If you want lighter and stronger landing gear, try using 5/32 wire instead.
Hope this helps.
