Hello,

Just checking and rewiring some packs with new ultra deans connectors.
I notice that they seem to get a dirty coating on them quite fast even though they are supposed to have a gold plating? Any comments welcome.

funny you say that ,

I have noticed the same thing but on other peoples packs. I don't make a habit of cleaning mine but they still look shiny and new. Perhaps it is how you store them?

I am curious to hear the answer here....

Ha Ha no, I had a brand new one out of the package show the wear marks right after installing and charging. I did notice that some slide
together better than others.

Are you using high voltage packs?
Arcing when closing the contacts is a bit of a problem with the connectors, and they wear out and get blackened after awhile. Eventually they'll need to be replaced as you'll lose a lot of conductivity.

I've read some guys will put a switch between the ESC and battery and connect everything first, then throw the switch to minimize damage after it's all connected. Switches introduce one more thing inline to potentially fail though, so whether that's something you wanna risk or not is your choice.

I've got blackened prongs on any of my packs that are over 11 volts. The higher the voltage the more pronounced it becomes in my experience. My 22 volt packs do some serious sparks every time I connect them.
