Re: balsa usa fokker dvlll

My dad built one and I painted it for him. I flew it a couple times, the limited advice I can give you on it is, make sure you give it enough power, my dad had a Saito 170 3 cylinder radial on his and it was barely enough, he later switched to a Saito 180 single and it was better, but still marginal, I think a 200 would be better. You must use co-ordinated turns, your rudder is an absolute must with this airplane, the ailerons and elevators will not get you through a turn by themselves smoothly.
Taxiing and landings are tricky to achieve without nosing over, keep the power on so your elevator remains effective.
We built his with a 3 piece wing, center section with struts stayed attached to the fuse all the time and outer panels attached with a 1 1/4" tube.
Make very sure you have the incidence correct on the lower wing (between the wheels) if it is off even a smidge your elevator trim will be terrible in flight and will change badly with different power settings.
It is a very nice airplane, but is not forgiving in any way, it is a scale airplane and must be flown as such.

Great plane great kit great experience. It is definitely a WW1 aircraft but once you get it, you will love it, there are some tricks!

Here are some pics of mine. I competed with my DVIII this past season and qualified for the US Scale Masters. It is a unique aircraft that draws attention! I fly out of Vernon, not sure where you are, I'm going to guess Kamloops area

I fly mine with a Saito 3 Cylinder 170 and love it!
There is a great detailed build thread on RC Scale Builder !
