Would I send my dog out to stop a running 150cc plane on the field? Heck no!!! So why train ANY animal to put itself in harms way. Just stupid. I'm sure they could find another way to stop "drones".

Man you are so lucky do get to do that it must be really neat training them. How many do you have.

There is not enough clearance between the rotors for an eagle to safely grab anything. This is irresponsible at best.

Here is Pandora, The juvenile bald eagle I had. Look at those feet and tell me they'd fit between the rotors of a small drone!

Maybe the Japonese will train dogs to fire nets at them?

They say right in the description that they can jam the navigation system or position location.

That means GPS, the same GPS signals used by aircraft to navigate and provide location information for collision avoidance systems.

Not a great idea to jam that.

then maybe we should ban all manned aircraft. killing birds every day.

the hyper over response to drones should be put in perspective of the real threat planes face at almost every airport, all day long, often in the dozens at a time: those autonomous unpredictable flying objects called birds. I worry about them every time I fly a light plane. A drone is just one more bird out there added to the hundred or so I will encounter every flight, and the artificial birds usually weigh a lot less than the geese (average 10lb), swans (average 22 lb) and bald eagles (average 10lb). Bald eagle being the most unpredictable thing out there.

Re: Dutch police train eagles to hunt quads

so there is also this new tech, that could evolve to negate the power of any 'radio jammer drone gun'

wire-tethered surveillance drone. flies to 1000' agl. Happens to be developed in Holland also. Though not using ground for control/position yet, they surely could change control to wired-guidance.

Re: Dutch police train eagles to hunt quads

I think everyone here would agree that the UNSAFE RC operators are the problem and I am sure someone will get rich when they figure out a way to control them. I suspect we will see several failed attempts before any major success.

Someone asked if I would put my dog in harms way. My dog has been my best friend for 10 years but I would put him in harms way if it might save lives.
