Red face octane rating

I have two gassers, a BME 50 and a ZDZ100.
After wearing my arm and shoulder out trying to start the ZDZ last night, I went back and read the instructions.
I checked the ignition battery and it was not dead, but it also was not right up there either. (4.8v NiMH, 2700 MAH). Would increasing this to a 6cell 2700 mah battery cause any problems with the ignition module?
I also was using the fuel mix for my BME 40to1 Penzoil, REGULAR gas (87 octane)
The ZDZ asks for 93 octane.
my question is - does the octane rating make that much difference?
Could I run 93 octane in the BME?
thanks

Angry Re: octane rating

I think the octane will make the difference. I use only high test gas.
Going to a 6V battery would depend on which version of ignition you have. The older version does not recommend 6V. The best solution would have been to test your spark at the field last night under those conditions. My bet is that you flooded the engine. It is easy to do, particularly when the engine is new and you are still getting used to the starting procedure and setting up the carb.

Did you pull the plug?

Re: octane rating

Octane needed depends on the compression ratio.ZDZ for example go to great lengnts to explain why one should use 93 Octane in their engines with 11:1 ratios, but 92 or less (regular) in their other lower compression engines marketed under the RCS brand.
