IEF Second event Dec 15th 5:30 to 7:30 pm -VENU RULES &

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Evening all;

We have the second date booked as well Sat Dec 15th 5:50 to 7:30 pm
For those attending, please note the following facility rules.

1: No Food, Drinks or Gum inside the Gymnasium
2: Athletic shoes only. (no boots even though it's winter sorry)
3: Please be prepared to leave at 7:30 (prepack when you're not flying)
4: Pay & display parking directly across from the building. (check times, don't know how much)
5: no adhesives in the gym (my rule) we'll find a place in the loby to affect repairs with CA or Epoxy.

$15 registration fee. IEF members will get a discount, Membership fee still to be determined at a later date.

Please register at the door and have your valid MAAC card to show.
You will be provided a recept.
MAAC registration / renewal will be available.

No carbon blades. Heli's or Planes please. (subject to review)
Please modify your airplanes to have rubber spinners or elastic retainers. eventually these will become manditory, but not this week.

Four basic categories.
1- slow fly
2- 3d fixed
3- heli-training
4- heli 3d

We will rotate every 10 or 15 munites depending on batteries.
I will try and keep the format a little lose depending on demand.
Eveyone should get at least 1/2 hour to fly in every category.

Pit area will be along the south (outside) wall behind the flightline

There will be a table set up for reciever quaranteen.
Frequency board policy in effect
Observation from behind the flight line only, or from the perimeter windows.

No spectators IN the gym during 3d helicopter flying. window watching only.

Snacks and drinks will be available in the lobby. My charming little daughters will be running a modest snack bar. $1 pop (maybe even "fiddy cent "cookies if i can talk my wife into it)

I would ask those with Frequency Synthesizing radios to be flexable and find a little used frequency to allow more people to fly. Be prepared to change your frequencies at the gym.

There are a number of topics I would like to discuss perhaps after the event. in the lobby. Matters I would like to get your feedback on for the following event. So please plan to stick around for 15 mins after you've packed up.

To simplify things for the future, Please consider the option of owning a frequency for the year. I'd be willing to host a Crystal exchange program so that most people have their own frequency for all their aricraft. This will simplify the frequency board and afford fewer conflicts during flying time. This would also be a huge time saver.

Please email any further questions to ief@mde-canada.com

Thanks
See you saturday.

Are running shoes considered "athletic shoes" ?

Sound reasonable.
I think the biggest concern is non-marking soles.

Not that rubber stuff you can scuff off.

parking

I called U of T and the parking is $1 / 1/2 hour to a max of $5

I tried to see if there was some way to manage the parking better but apparently the whole facility is a pay and display system handled by the city of mississauga.

The school has nothing to do with it, unfortunately

I will call next week and see if anything can be done...

The university runs and handles the parking and sets the fees. Who ever told you it's the city is wrong. Perhaps the city supplies the meters but they don't control the rates.
Their fees have dropped. It used to be $2.50 an hour up to $9 after 3:30pm so the new rate is considerably cheaper than what it used to be. Was $13 during the day. Since it's on a Saturday, there should be no issues. Be warned though, the campus police watch the lots like hawks so don't think to try and skip on paying or you will get ticketed. The meters take change or credit. The latter is the easiest. There is also a good bus service and a drop off point for cars right in front of the athletics building.

For snacks, there's a Tim Horton's on the second floor of the South Building, which is connected to the gym. There's also a Starbucks in the library building, which is a short walk from the gym. I don't know what their Saturday hours are but I expect they're open late during exams.

I'm a student there but I have an exam on the 15th so I can't fly. I'll be around though so I'll check it out to see how it's going.

EDIT: For future consideration, and depending on turn out, it may be more economical to rent Gym C. It's located on the first floor where the original fitness centre was. It's a little bigger than your typical high school gym and has high ceilings. It's only $55 per hour to rent.

Update Dec 3: I checked the parking situation this morning. Parking is still $2.50 according to the machines. Unless there's a special weekend rate, which I doubt. Rate reductions are for the 08-09 school year. Perhaps they gave you next year's by accident.

********************** IEF a GO! **************

Sorry for the delay guys,

I wrote this out and got called away before I could post it...

I think it's amusing that people would be emailing me to find out if the flying event is still on. The weather is ALLWAYS perfect at IEF. Just follow the plows and you'll be fine!

Truth is I'm supposed to be booking the events three weks in advance, and they have to ask a staff member to stay late so Once it's booked...It's booked. If we don't show I lose the money and If that happens too often the club will fold.

I was a little short on registration last week So registration tonight will be $20 (sorry, just covering costs.)

I will be taking IEF Memberships for $120 tonight. That will buy your memberships for the next 10 events at $12

Walk in traffic will be $20 and the Membership will be limited to 25 "full time" members for the season. It's not that we don't want the extra members, it's just that we want to ensure there is adequate space and time available for the members that have committed.

See you there...
