Hey Dave, I wonder if fibreglass cloth and resin would do the job? I've heard of being used on 1:1 scale tanks....

full scale tanks are made of different materials, tanks for glow models are made of a special plastic that is resistant to our fuels/crashes etc, even the manufacturers have not found a glue that works, they sonicly weld them toogether (sounds waves), the resin won't stick to the tank for long unfortunately

Interesting. One of my customers makes machines for "welding" filler necks, etc into automotive gas tanks. They use a different process. They actually butt the necks up against the tank under force and then spin them. The friction heats up the surfaces of the 2 pieces and they end up bonded together.....

yep, same result as sonic welding i think, the sound waves heat up the parts at the joint and melt them toogether, no glue

tried many glues in the past, both adhesives (ca,epoxy etc) and solvent types (abs, model cement, resin bond etc) and none of them lasted at all, some fell off way to easy, even on clean new tanks, forget about it on used tanks that have an oily residue in the plastic

but the solderring iron trick works almost every time

havn't tried that one, have you tried picking it off with your fingers? also have you tried a leak test under water to see if it totally sealed the tank, would be cool if it works

100% PERFECT SOLUTION...AND CHEAP!!!

Go to the dollar store and buy some epoxy. Mix it up...slap it on...BINGO!!!

I always take some with me to the track when I race, JUST for this reason.

Trust me, it works great!!!
