Re: 30-32 inch floats

They are pretty easy to make out of foam. You can cut them with a saw even, if you don't want to bother with a hotwire. I imbedded some plywood for the mounting tabs where I wanted them. Some people glue a strip of ply or wood on the top and clamp the axle onto that, and line the bottom with thin 1/64th ply, fiberglass or even packing tape. The pink foams sands easy but is heavier than the white. The blue foam is heavier than both, but sands nice too. Just sayin, by the time you buy them and ship them, and maybe have to modify them.

Re: 30-32 inch floats

Thanks for the info, i've made a set out of balsa for my apprentice and covered them with MONOKOTE, they turned out very well, very time consuming... foam may be a good way to go , i'll have to look into it as well. Thanks!

Oh, that is where the 'Apprentice' handle comes from. How did the plane work on the water?

Re: 30-32 inch floats

They worked great on water, water rudder is nice as well. They are about 28" I think, get on step quickly and track great in the water. A power 15 motor would be nice but the stock one works well enough. I have flaps on it now, but haven't tested them with the floats, only the skis this winter. Hopefully this ice will melt soon. Here is a link below to a video of last fall, last flight of the season on floats.

Re: 30-32 inch floats

Something like these 32 inch floats? PM if interested.. not sure what they are worth. Still might use them on my Norseman or Cessna if the planes don't sell.
