Short Sunderland

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has tried building the 180 inch short Sunderland from the plans on the outerzone uk site. I was wondering what size engines, I was thinking about 4 evolution .61 grasser, anythoughs?

Re: Short Sunderland

I haven't look at those plans and therefore could not help you much but man for sure I would like to see a build thread on this forum if you ever decide to build that thing.

Re: Short Sunderland

Well I started cutting the formers for this beast and the fuse is going to be approx 8 feet long, one of the issues so far is that there is no 3 and 4 formers. i guess i will have to get my drafting skills out and draw them myself as I was unable to find any on the net. this is going to be quite the project and as you may have guessed it is not going to be built over night, i will post pics of what i have done soon.

Re: Short Sunderland

Steve Souchuk at the Asessippi Airshow near Russell Manitoba had a couple of big foamies.
I think the C-130 was 14 feet, the 747 was 10 feet wingspan. Made from foam.

The Herc used 22cc gas motors off stock Weedwacker grass trimmers, they performed ok. I think the 747 used .61 glow engines.

Both ac look and flew a scale speeds, both flew on 3 engines though a landing was quickly set up.

Good luck on your project! cheers - ken
