Attended the London Swap Meet today, Bought these 2 items. I have never seen these before, But they were interesting. Hopefully some of you know what these are and how they work.
1st a nice little razor plane Says.. "MARTOR Balsa-Hobel no. 48 5 48
solingen. Does this need special blades? If so where do I find them? Or can it just use 'old style Gillette" like the ones we used to shave with when 1 blade was all we needed?
2nd is a "SMITH WING INCIDENCE INDICATOR" This thing is a piece of light ply 23.5 inches long with a bubble level attached to an aluminum bar
with a pointer facing a scale that just slides up and down.
Pretty crude by todays standards with lazers and all, But if someone could tell me how to work it I would certainly appreciate it! Quite often the simplest tools are the best if you know what to do with them.
Sorry no pictures. Don't have a digital camera yet. In fact this computer machine is a recent addition to the household and the only thing I use it for is to talk to you fella's.

Just got back from London myself.
The razor plane is for stripping balsa, same as a carpenters plane for planing doors. Uses single edge razor blades fron hardware store.

The incidence meter is used to check angle ( incidence) of wings and tail relative to fuselage datum line. Clamp it on leading and trailing edge center lines to indicate wing. Similar to Robart incidence meter.check out this link

Not sure as to the type of blade in your plane but I have had an exacto

: for about 40 years and has never been sharpened. If it takes a heavier blade than the razor thin blade Then you got a good tool. I have it in my tool box on the bench and all it see's is balsa and glue joints. I also cut on an angle shearing the wood. I have a MA that I don't like as it has the thin blades and they don't last.
Tip: If you can find a heavier blade that is to long you can grind down to fit. Don't take the temper out of the cutting edge.
Love those old tools and a picture would be nice.
