wing tube too tight in wings, help needed

It appears the ribs are squeezing the phenolic tube within my wing panels.
If you force the tube in and turn you can see the lines where it pinches.

What is the best way to lightly sand these tight points within the wings without destroying the remainder of the fit?

What is the Wing Tube made of?

Aluminum, Carbon Fibre?

I would think that if you were able to wrap some sandpaper around the tip of dowel or some other rod - so that the diameter of the 'sandpaper' part is equal to your inner wing tube - the sandpaper should only significantly rub on the inner surface of the phenolic tube where it is pinching, which is where you want it to remove some material......

good luck

will start fine
Tube itself is cf, if you sand the tube then you loosen the friction fit it has at the points not passing through ribs, so can really only sand the outer tube installed in the wing and only where it passes through ribs, I guess the dowel wrapped in fine will be my first and last attempt

Thanks guys

If the tube if carbon fibre then continue sanding until it fits, I had to do this with all my 3DHS planes with carbon tubes as the fit was too tight. I used 600 grit and wet sanded mine. Came out fine, just sand until it just fits so keep trying it until you like what you see. Just remember to keep rotating the tube as you sand!!

Ed you are hilarious. .....

As mentioned before that best would be to attach medium grit sandpaper to a wooden dowel of same diameter at its tip and pass it through the holes in of the wingtube through the ribs, it will pickup the tight hole that needs opening up, you can then lube it and sand it lightly in circular motion till that edge is sanded away to give you smooth insertion for the tube to fit through the holes nicely.

Re: wing tube too tight in wings, help needed

This is the "socket" in the wing that has a tight spot cause the compression from the wings rib(s). I have found that some wing tube fit better one way better then the other (left/right), if this is still no good do not put lube in the socket as it is phenolic (paper with wax) this will just gum up. Try cleaning then waxing the tube (not the socket), if still unhappy try taking an Aluminum tube (I have done this) the same size and sharpen one end and add a nick with a file, insert into the socket to the tight spot then turn easy till it cut through . Do not use water , if the socket get wet it will come apart. Getting sand paper to the tight spot is tricky, measure where your tight spot is so you know where to sand, roll your sand paper onto an under size tube, said right roll and when to get to the tight spot roll left to sand. Good luck! maddog
