Good to know I'm on the right track. When you think about it we are dragging along a lot of weight in fuel and a decrease of 25 oz. (40% of the full fuel load of 64 oz.) ahead of the CG is certainly going to affect the CG!

Re: Dalton Extra 300 ML build
So I am officially crazy (as if some of you didn't already know this!!). The opportunity came up to get a NIB DA200 and I jumped on it. Pictures later...

Re: Dalton Extra 300 ML build
Hi Phil, I might but not right now. I think that I will be sending this engine in to DA. It is brand new (never been even mounted on an airframe) but it is a very early production engine (#25 I believe) so I want to make sure that it has any and all upgrades. I think that they can also convert it to an "L" version (lightened heads etc.) so I might go for that.

Re: Dalton Extra 300 ML build
I finished up the fuel tank tray extension by adding some 1/8" lite ply triangular bracing. 64 ounces of fuel tanks coming loose mid flight could ruin your whole day so I wanted to ensure that the tray extension was solid by bracing the extension.
When I changed my mind and decided to go with the Fortitude fuel tanks I realized that I had made the tank opening in the hatch too big so that needed to be fixed as well. I like the splatter paint look in the cockpit so I wanted to document how you can do this without adding much weight. Once the wood work is done you mask off the unpainted areas and spray a VERY light coat of light grey primer. Let it dry and lightly sand any fuzz. A second VERY light coat of grey (barely covered) goes on. Then you can spray the splatter paint. Just a couple of passes will give a very nice effect. I weighed the hatch after the grey primer at 281 grams. With the splatter paint it gained only 4 grams. (for your reference a Canadian Nickel weighs 4 grams) I added a little bling to the back canopy support (perhaps a little foreshadowing of the color scheme??) I'll start on the pilots reconstructive shoulder surgery tonight and pretty soon I be able to close up the cockpit area and glue on the canopy.

Re: Dalton Extra 300 ML build
Coming along really nicely Gordon!! I really like the bling on the cockpit backplate Congrats also on the DA200. I think DA will mod it to the "L" version without a problem.
Cheers Trev |

Re: Dalton Extra 300 ML build
Thanks Trevor. DA has always provided the best service so I'm sure they will take care of me! In the meantime having a proven DLE222 is not a bad position to be in either
